I am getting collection calls from NCO for a person that must have had my phone number in the past. When we bought our home almost 2 1/2 years ago, got the number we have now and the calls started immediately and were sometimes many times a day. Every time I have spoken with someone, have been assured the number was being removed from the system and I would get no more calls. Since I worked third shift back then, I needed my sleep and even called to get their information rectified. When I became disabled, and the calls were still coming, my annoyance became greater yet since I was really in no condition to have to deal with what are essentially nuisance calls. Do not get personal calls anymore, now it is strictly dialers - but it is still this NCO place looking for the same guy. Only suggestion I have seen here is to change my phone number but that is really not optimal since can run into the same thing with a new number. I have a contact name and an address to send a letter but wondering if anyone has gone through this before and if they had any success with getting them to stop. I cannot believe their persistance - good lord, calling the wrong number for nearly 2 1/2 years. Thanks!

I sent a cease contact letter to a company that was contacting me looking for someone else. I stated that the person they were looking for was not at this number and they must remove this phone number from their contact information for that person. I sent it certified and after they received the letter they stopped calling me.

Max1959, handle this situation in a different way. Call the agency and ask for the reason of their call. Ask them to verify you the details based on which they are placing the call to you. Since the information that they will give will not match yours, you are in a position to get these calls stopped.

Some state laws allow recording of phone calls with collection agencies. If it is permissible in your state, record the phone calls held with the collector and cover your base legally. If it is not permissible in your state, inform that the call is being recorded for legal acknowledgement.

The collectors will stop calling you if you give this situation a legal importance. Know your federal rights and handle the collectors accordingly. They must stop calling you further.

I have spoken to individuals when they call, I have returned calls and I have spoken to supposed supervisors... that stops the calls for awhile, sometimes a month or two. Now though, they just use a dialer with message to call this number. I know the name of the person they are looking for and the reason... and after nearly 2 1/2 years, they still call. I have to agree with Kathryn's idea and an address and contact to send the letter to... think time to go ahead and file a complaint with the FTC too. Thanks.
