Any type of accurate negative information will stay in the credit report for a period of 7 years as per the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
However, bankruptcy will stay on the file for a longer duration. Chapter 7 bankruptcy appears in the CR for a period of 10 years from the date of filing and discharged Chapter 13 bankruptcy will be shown for 7 years.
