New credit report..
Date: Tue, 03/28/2006 - 05:21
Well I got a new credit report in the mail from equifax the other day. They finally changed my name (it was under my brothers name) and they sent the report and all this informaiton with it regarding fraud, etc.
It has some new companies reporting on it that were not there before. One company Adelphia cable has reported that I owe them for two accounts. One is about $800 and the other is about $900. The dates don't seem correct either because at the time I wasn't living in Florida. I'll have to do some research on that one.
But the local cable company in my town has also reported two bills to the credit bureaus. The first one was from about 2-3 years ago when I moved. I told them I wanted my cable transfered to my new address. They said ok and did it. I still had their equipment for digital cable and they asked if I wanted to continue with it. I said no. They set up an appt for someone to come out and pick up the equipment. They never showed up. I didn't even bother to think of it after that.
Then I get a collection letter in the mail saying that I owe Mediacom $616 for equipment. I call them and ask them to send someone out to pick up their equipment. They did and they gave me a receipt for it. A month later I get another collection letter in the mail saying that I owe the same amount. I call mediacom and ask them about this letter and explain that I gave the equpment back and have the receipt for it. The woman on the other end says "Oh don't worry about it. We've noted your account. You're paid in full." I asked for it in writing but never got anything. Then I find out from other friends that the same thing happened to them and that mediacom doesn't have (or want) to remove this from your report for at least a year regardless of whether or not you paid it.
So when I got my credit report in January, I disputed this item through the credit bureau. It came back as legitimate. I'm wondering..How can i get this bill removed from my file? I've contacted the place sending letters to me but they tell me that mediacom hasn't told them any different and that unless mediacom steps in, they're going to collect whether I owe or not.
