I think you are a little confused. If you dispute an entry on your credit report, they CRA must investigate it and validate or remove the entry.
Once they complete the investigation they must furnish you with a copy of the updated credit report free of charge.
IF you request it the CRA must supply you with detailed information on how they performed their investigation which would imclude the information the creditor provided to validate the debt to them...

Thanks Clay---guess I am a little confused. So I can request the information that the creditor provided to validate from the bureaus, and they will send it to me? SO its only then, that IF the creditor/Ca's couldn't validate to the bureaus, that the bureaus will take it off the report. so if they're satisfied that the debt is mine, that is enough, and not enough disputes in the world will remove it, if they're convinced? right? thanks for your time Clay-you're wonderful. Right, as a matter of fact there are remedies in the FCRA that allow prosecution for filing frivolous disputes.
Thats how many credit "repair" scams work, they inundate the CRA with disputes and try to create confussion, thus causing them to be unable to validate anything and improperly deleting valide entries.

you can find the FTC's fdcpa home page here:

The FDCPA home page has links to many staff opinions which answer many commonly asked questions, and is the source I have used in several posts.

so Clay--I'm sure you read my posts and know or at least have an idea of whats going on with me and my Dell and Wells Fargo accounts. what would you recommend, if you were in my shoes?
Dell won't talk to me, collection agencies won't validate. no one is talking to me. Have wrote both certified. Credit bureaus say they're mine-(I knew this)
Wells Fargo-didn't ask for validation-so has nothing to do with that. neither collection agency nor Wells Fargo will respond to me. have sent several certified letters to all corporate offices trying to get someone to talk to me. Credit Bureaus say its mine-(I know this)
Whats next? I thought it would be to send credit bureaus my proof as asking for validation. They obviously talked to the credit bureaus but no one will talk to me. But I don't want to 'beat a dead horse' with the bureaus and exhaust myself with them. should I just sit tight for now assuming that I will eventually hear from someone? Or do I write original creditors again to enforce my paper trail? thanks, shirley

Collection agency cannot do this duplicity. If the account is verified through credit bureau that means collection agency responded to them and confirmed the account properly. But they did not send validation to you, which means further collection activity is not allowed. So what should be your next move? How will you understand if the debt is valid or not?
Moreover, it means that they have sufficient information about your debt, still they did not validate when you requested. Isn't it a violation of fdcpa? You can write them that if they do not validate the debt, they have to remove it from your report, or you will be going to file complaint against them.
