I've gotten two messages on my answering machine from an actual person, Friday and Monday, from 800-701-5215 and then an extension. Through this forum and calling just the number, I found out they are NPA. Would be best to call them or just wait until they catch me at home? I can't imagine what it's about because all my debts are consolidated with T&C. What is the best way to handle this? I've also gotten two automated messages from Alliance One about a month apart also. I don't know whether to ignore them or call them. I really don't want to get into a fight with them. I haven't gotten anything in the mail. Thanks for any advice.

Call T&C and have them contact NPA and Alliance One. They have (I think) 5 days after they call you to send you something in writing. Let T&C deal with them, since your debts are consolidated with them, they can represent you, that's what you pay the fees for. Good luck and good to see you back!

Federal laws force the collection agencies to send the details of the debt in writing within 5 days of the initial communication. If you do not hear anything from them, send a debt validation letter through certified mail and make your legal move.

Check your credit report and know if NCA has hit your file with negative remarks. They should be allowed to hit your file only if they have a legitimate purpose. If they have hit your file fraudulently, you need to dispute with the bureaus and get your file rectified.

Thanks for your responses. I read this forums everyday and they have been a great help. When I signed up though I never had a debt counselor call me. How can I have a counselor call me? When I signed up I had a person from a law office call and pressure me into signing up for their debt service, not really counseling. I thought everything was taken care of, but I guess not.

Scooter - I don't know if you are mixed up with the calls you received on that day. You might have heard from one of the consultants among the various calls received. My consultant didn't force me to take their service, but I had the free counseling. :) You can try by doing a new sign up and have a consultant call you back. You will have to use a new email address as the present one is already taken by the system.
