here is something i found i wanted to share about Osi collection services inc:

OSI Collection Services, a company owned and operated by Outsourcing Solutions Inc (OSI Collections) that just emerged from Chapter 11 bankrupcy but doesnt act like it because they continue to threaten wage garnishment from innocent people in order to get money.
September 20, 2004 -- Have you recently been harassed by Osi collection services Collection agency?

Over the past decade OSI Collection Services Inc, an Outsourcing Solutions Inc company has been violating the Fair Debt collection practice act by threatening the people they call with wage garnishments, they also have been threatening to take legal actions against them if they do not pay what OSI claims they owe. OSI collection services also has been accusing innocent people of owing debts they can't verify and they know are debts actually false.

A Former OSI collection services employee "JON" was fedup of being harassed and threatened over a debt OSI could not verify. OSI collection services claimed he owed a bill for under $110.00 to a hospital for services rendered to him in 2000. Jon also use to work for OSI in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and in Jacksonville, Florida but was forced to resign because of not being trained correctly for 3rd party collections.

Dustin, can't even get a loan for a home due to a unverified bill with OSI collection services. "The amount they say I owe is 118.00 for a medical bill. All medical bills I have or had have been paid" to make sure Dustin had no outstanding bills he contacted all the hospitals he visited to only find out they were all paid.. Another person received a threatening letter from OSI claiming that Capital One services was considering taking more actions against him if OSI collection servicesdoes not receive the money that is owed to Capital One.

[Links made inactive as per forum rules-Vikas]

It's sad what Jon and Dustin had to go through. Debt collection agencies are violating the rules and need to face penalties for it.

Nowadays, more and more cases of violation of the fdcpa laws are coming up. The reason for this may be that the debt collectors are either poorly trained or they know that they can escape from it.

File your complaints at the FTC, BBB and the DA's office so that companies like osi collections can be shut down.

Does anyone else find it ironic a collection agency filed for bankruptcy?? Wonder if OSI Collection Services had collection agencies calling them to collect?

People, stop complaining you owe money! FYI, OSI collection services collects on debt that other companies give to them (like capital one) after they can not collect from you dead beats for 90 days or so. Oh, and the reason they went bankrupt was because they bought other business' and aquired those debts, so in order to consolidate they filed.

Stop complaining you owe money and get a job to pay your debts. If I owed you a few hundred I am sure you would call me many times for it.

Correct, if you owed to me, I would have called you hundred times and then I would have violated the federal law by calling you endlessly. And moreover, if I had used all the illegal tactics about which we are complaining, you would have taken actions to sue me. Won't you? :D

Robbcombs, we are not denying paying our debt if you think so. But do not make threatening like wage garnishment on innocent people in order to get money. Teach your company to co-operate and work within the federal laws. It will be much better. Hope you understand.

 Robbcombs is the exact reason for the fdcpa. People fall on hard times and try to work with the creditors. We all know that some creditors refuse to work with people. collection agencies are very heartless and ruthless and all they care about is the commission. They don't care how they harass. Also, Robbcombs, did you ever stop and think that some people have jobs and have been laid off, hurt on the job, etc. We all know that we have to pay our debts, but there are times we just can't!

So, in other words OSI Collection Services failed properly plan and manage their money causing them to fail to pay bills.
Subsequently their creditors wouldn't work with them to resolve the situation leaving them no alternative but to seek protection under bankruptcy laws and have debts dismissed by the courts?? Sounds like they got a nasty dose of their own medicine. Seems to me they got a little taste of what they deserve.

Well, I do have to say that I found this entire page very interesting!!!! I have to agree that OSI Collection Services likes to threaten people to get money from them. They threatened to take my Tax Refund from me if I dont have them paid off by the time I file taxes. Now granted I owe them Money. But I owe $1100 and I started out owing $3000. I have been paying $150 a month every month never late never skipped. Now OSI Collection Services want to take my tax money that I probably would have used to pay them off anyway,,,It is just the Idea of the threatening behavior that bothers me!

They can't lay claim to or levy your tax refund unless the debt is owed to the government. A collection Agent can't file a lawsuit (which would be required to attempt to levy a tax refund) unless they are authorized to do so by the original creditor. Even then they can't levy a refund, only place a judgment against you. They cannot make that decision or take that action on their own. Stating so is in violation of the fdcpa. Keep doing what your doing, and they will slink off with their tails between their bankrupt legs in no time.

I recieved a phone call from them last friday at 5:59. The two men were laughing at me when I was explaining the reason we have not paid the bill is because we incurred a $926.00 a month medical bill now until my husband dies. Then i said not to mention the amount of money we lost in the stock market which this administration wont do anything about. Then they accused me of being a Hillary Clinton lover while still laughing in the background there were two on the phone call. I said so what if I was and what does that have to do with this situation.

I have sent money into previous companies before. I send what I can directly to the debtor, I never send the money into the collection agency. They cash the check. I also put on the back if this check is cashed you are accepting that the balance is ....... I have never had a problem with them not cashing the check.

down & out,

Collectors can never abuse you; fdcpa does not allow them to use profane language. It seems from your post that they insulted you during the conversation. You should file complaint against them. Hope you would have it recorded.

It's good to deal with original creditor. However, not all the collectors are as bad as these chaps. There are agencies that send the payment to the creditor regularly. But this company does not seem to be a legit one.

Contact your original creditor and confirm your account status. Explain your situation to them and try to settle it at a convenient amount.

The nickname of the author of this topic has me cracking up every time. My friend, do you have evidence of this unorthodox dietary habit you claim is enjoyed by the people at OSI? Did they inform you that while they were attempting to collect the debt, they were dining on that ear of corn you passed last week? Could you see that big brown smile on his face as you reached for your checkbook? Just curious...

I don't mean to be gross, just trying to crack up the forum at OSI's expense!

To say that OSI Collection Services is a collection agency is a understatement! A few years ago, OSI made contact with me about a student loan debt. After doing some research, I found out about the Loan Rehabilation Program. A program in which all are entitled to remove their student loan debt out of "default status".Once the loan is in default status it is usually referred to a collection agency. Most collection agencies don't volunteer imformation about this program. OSI wanted me to consolidate the amounts I owed and pay he loan entirely off. I didnt want to, I wanted to rehabilitate. So they called my job and home repeatly, threatning wage garnishment. I in return called legal aid, and they helped me enter in to the rehab program. And once the attorney got involved, OSI was never to contact me again, only my lawyer. You think they obeyed? No! They called me one Sunday night, and when I started threatning them about going to court, they hung up in my face. I finally rehabilitated my loan through OSI. Its a 12month program, and my loan debt is back in good status. Thanks Legal Aid!.....It was definitely an experience I won't forget.

LaVone, it's good to know that you just saved yourself from falling in the wrong hands of osi collections and perhaps, losing hard earned money. There is a legal path of doing everything. It is not necessary that you have to follow one single path shown in your way. Do a comparative research and find the results suitable for you. This helps a lot!! I feel happy that you got the easier way out.

My husband has a ongoing contract with the FL Dept of Education and is in repayment. Suddenly he gets contacted by these OSI people who have no right to begin with to contact my husband, on top of it they sent FOURTYTHREE BILLS in ONE day!

If you are harrassed by them, get a consumer law lawyer after them! This is what we are doing.

Can anyone explained to me please, if you have a debt with a collection agency and they don't want to take a minumum they want more than what you can pay, can they garnished my pay on their own or what are the steps they need to take in order to garnish my pay. can they garnish my pay at anytime or they have to go to court.

Gar, if your payments are not accepted, a collection agency can send the account back to the creditor who will decide if any legal actions need to be taken against you.

They only intend to do so if you are not at all paying anything towards the account. Since you have a paper track to prove that you proposed a payment plan, things might favor you later.

There are legal procedures to be followed before the wages are garnished. No garnishment can take place without a court hearing. You will be served a legal notice to appear in the court and present your case.

However, you might like to review your agreement contract once again and go through the mentioned points.

Hi, Looking for some help! I being new to this whole collections things owed Captial One. I am not disputing that I owed but I made a paymetn of $100 over the phone in Jan 06. ( stupid mistake) and agreed to call back at end of Feb or 1st of March 06 with the authorization of the rest around $400. One sat of this week I notice that my bank account is over drawn because OSI decided to take out the rest of what was owed. No warning Nothing! I call today and as soon as I start explaining and asking what happened and why they transfered me to a lady and she gets on the phone with an immediate attitude that You spoke with me and I specifically rememeber this incident etc. Now either she has a fabulous memory or she doesnt verify many calls I'm not sure which. When I asked for a manager she got on the phone with an even worse attitude. i asked for a number for corp. office and she gave the wrong number and location. I ave finally after about 13 calls got to leave a message for a lady in the legal compliance office. I am not disputing the payment I just think they should cover some or all of the expense that I have had to incur because the did not get authorization for this check!!!
Help!
Kim

Kim, it's sad to hear such stories about a collection agency trying to misrepresent the consumer's accounts. They are in business and should follow the legal guidelines. When you have explained that you will pay the debt, they should not have made the debit in your account without your authorization. This is absolutely illegal! You must place a complaint at the local consumer protection office as well as the FTC and the BBB. The bureaus should be notified of their illegal activities and more people get alert in the future when dealing with this company. You must also make arrangement with the original creditor by explaining your dealing with this company. If the account is still with them, you won't have to work with the CA. They will collect the money towards your account.

I just got inside this website today & i really liked it. I wasn't sure that there were more people going through the same problem i was. Recently they have been calling to bug me to pay 135.00 for another hospital bill that they say just popped up. Yet i told them why and they just can't explain it. I told them i wouldn't pay until i saw a written statement. They said they would but guess what nothing yet & i still get harrassed.

We shouldnt have to pay random ammounts of money to a fraudulent agency like OSI. If I told you you owed me a random ammount of money and started harrassing you and being a jerk does that mean you should pay it?
Would you pay it? Doubt it!

I wish I had stumbled onto this message board before I had my run-in with this collection agency. My call started out with if you don't pay the balance you owe within 10 days a lawsuit will be next, which will cost you more than the balance you owe. Up until last year when 2 major surgeries for my son took me away from work and a steady paycheck for months at a time, I always paid this particular bill on time, usually for more than the minimum amount due. Now I was being treated as dirt. When I told them there was no way I could come up with that amount in 10 days time, this very hateful woman said I'd better ask my family and friends. To make it an even bigger nightmare? I was told I had to give them a post dated check, AND it had to be done over the phone. I know I owed the debt and I wanted to pay it off. Unfortunately I am not one of the fortunate few that has a nest egg to dig into when a life altering event happens.

I went through the rehab progrm and osi sent payments back saying i had over paid. I thought the loan was paid off. Two months later osi called me back stateing i was 3 months behind and i never completed the program. So for all of you who have completed the rehab program you just may want follow-up on it.

Just thought I'd let everyone know there is a lawsuit pending in Milwaukee, WI against OSI and their "practices". Seems OSI is in the wrong and they are being called on the carpet for it. So to all of you out there calling people deadbeats and losers for not paying their bills...I wonder how you would feel being "duped" by a company you (A) never heard of (b) harassed verbally and in writing by a company you never heard of (c) being asked to pay for a bill you don't even recall incurring.

Here is the funny thing - most doctors and hospitals and their billing departments are more than willing to set up a payment plan. (Even if it is for $10 a month). In a world where insurance barely covers anything and we have deductibles up the ying yang, it is the right thing to do. Yes, we do have people who just plain refuse to pay. These are the people who expect everything and do nothing to earn it. That is just a small percentage of people.

I'll keep you posted on how the lawsuit goes with the woman suing OSI in the area. Should be interesting.

Thanks, Billpayer!

That's good info and potentially great news.

Feel free to keep after the guest trolls who come here to bash people. Besides these judgemental jerks, I don't think there are any true deadbeats participating here, do you? Just folks who are tired of the threats, and the worries. We truly want to pay our debts but ONLY properly verified, lawfully collected, correctly credited and reported debts. There's no need for us to be taken advantage of and bled dry by those collectors who are out to make a buck from anyone by any means--and clearly there are a lot of them out there. I personally have two (polite) words to describe such collectors: extortionists and THIEVES.

To the ethical collectors out there, thank you, and I'm sorry the scum of your profession make your job harder.

To the debtcc community, thank you for being there for people you don't even know. You're making life better for real people, and truly making the world a better place.

Best,
Diva.

To the bill collectors trolling on the board,if you follow the law,we would not have a reason for this board. If you would be willing to invest the time to search this board, you would see that no one here advocates not paying their bills. What we do advocate is ensuring that collectors and creditors follow the law during the repayment period.

Your flip answer to just pay your bills is useless because when life happens(job lost, injury at work, personal), a person ends up in a position of financial burden. If a creditor is willing to work with a debtor to help them pay in full,I am all for it.

As far as calling being behind on your bills fraud, that is a bunch of bull and you know it.Before the new bankruptcy laws were enacted government studies were done on this and it show less than 3% of the debts were done based on fraud.

Few days ago my dad received a letter from osi
that his store owes some money from the town. that amount was about $300 and interst is another$300~!!TOTOAL$600. Strangely there is no other explanation about the debt. He hasn't received any bills from the town. Usually you get tons of bills before you get this kind of letter.
There was another store in town which closed about a year ago with same store name as ours. Rumor has it that the ownder didn't pay rents and some people called out our store to see if we are related. Some even sent the bills to us.However, we use different company name.I kinda suspect that OSI sent the bill to us because we have same store name? I am gona call OSI tommorw and also town hall. Hopefully they know what the debt was for.

Since we moved into our new home, I've received 45 calls from this agency. Initially it's a recording asking me to call for an important message. When I do, it's...guess who? After a few questions, they determine I'm not the person they are looking for (apparently someone who had our phone # previously) and promise to delete my info from their records. They never do! I've e-mailed the company...no response. I've filed a complaint with the FTC. What else can I do? I'm being harrassed for a bill they admit is not mine! I will call St. Louis office today...thanks to whoever posted that info.

But you don't, instead you go to McDonalds and get a value meal... then you complain that they call you. bottom line, pay your bills.. Don't get mad at the people who are working at collection agencies for 'doing their jobs' We are feeding our families and paying our bills....

Collector Karen...

I used to be a former bill collector....in fact I used to work for OSI. (Until they wrongfully terminated me because I whistle blew but that is a whole other story...)debt collectors nowadays are trained piss poorly. They don't know how to listen nor do they know how to negotiate. They take anger from call to call. When I was collecting, we were taught to let our debtors vent and to listen. Instead of making demands or threats, we found out what they COULD do. 95% of my inventory was a payment plan and I used to go into each month with around $75-$100K in post dated checks or autodebits. I could get people to pay who had not paid anyone before because I listened. I did not over talk, threaten, yell or nor did I ever violate FDCPA. EVER. I worked hard and quite frankly, I had fun! I liked my job, at least until OSI bought out our agency. Too many collectors have a "debtor attitude". Owing money is not a crime, it is a fact of life. Sometimes life gets in way. 9/11, illness, a death, job loss. Sure I played hard ball at times, especially when they lied to me. (Like being broke and only being able to pay $50/month but a month later you are trying to buy a house!) But even then I could revoke their payment plans and demand higher pays with a smile in my voice and on my face.

 I am so glad I found this site. I have been the victim of ID Theft and OSI has me down for 10 accounts. They are all Medical and to the same place. I have never been to this Hospital they say I owe. I have filed over 10 Police Reports and 8 Updates. I am still fighting with OSI. I have sent faxes and registered mails to them to let them know that it has been verified that I do not owe this.

I have been doing this for over 8 months now. My cousin tells me that I should get an attorney and let them send letters to them and see what happens. Since he is an attorney he says he will sign if I type all of the letters and then we wait for replies.
Wish Me Luck.

I am being billed for premiums to Humana insurance
for over $350.00 that were taken out of monthly
S.S. checks. Have not had any luck contacting OSI to
resolve this. I have a statment from S.S. stating
that the total amount was withheld. Now Humana said
CMS Receives the Money and the mix up is between them
I'm running out of time fast.

Due to a series of unfortunate events we had our leased car repossessed. OSI now has the account. Do they negotiate at all? We are on the verge of declaring bankruptcy but if they were to accept 50% we may be able to pay it off in full (with a loan from a family member). Does anyone have any suggestions how I should approach this?

I would try and contact them first and propose this plan. Explain that you are close to declaring bankruptcy and 50 cents on the dollar is better than nothing.
And for the person who had insurance premiums taken out of their SS check, I would go back to Social Security and get statements showing that the money was sent to Humana--so if Humana lost it, it's their problem and they shouldn't be going after you for another payment.

REPORT OSI

Maybe people should keep thier lines busy just asking them legitimate questions on their corp. They won't answer, but so what? There're not on the line bugging people who just happened to have the same last name of someone their trying to defraud.

Who is the president of OSI?
What is the brick and motar address?
In what state are you located?
How much do you make an hour?

Pardon my french, but youre an idiot.

Tell you what--lets play a little game. You dont know me from Adam. but here I am, telling you that you owe me $500. Are you going to pay it? Wouldnt you at least want to know how you owe that money? If you even do at all? OF COURSE you would want to know first!! If not, then you really are an idiot. So, take your canned "pay your bills" speech and get lost. So many of the people on here are getting harassed without even knowing what the debt is for!

In either case, even if it is a valid debt, where in the world do you get off thinking that gives you the right to be an even bigger idiot and break the law?

Bottom line--you cant be too smart if you complain because people want their so-called debt validated--especially since you know damn well that if I called you and said you owed me $500, your first question would be--

WHAT FOR???

Get a clue. Then go learn how to PROPERLY do your job. People owing money is no excuse for you to do illegal things to them.
