Chase would not honor my request to freeze my account

Hello,
I am yet another poor soul who got involved with the whole payday loan nightmare. I have followed a lot of the advice on this board and felt that I could get through this. However, Chase Manhattan was unwilling to place a freeze on my account.

I have a total of five payday loans out. They are as follows:

Paydaymax $700 paid more than $700
United Cash Loans $300 paid more than $300
NSL Cash Advance $300 paid more than $300
SJM Marketing $300 paid $0
Cardinal Management $300 paid $0

Because of the payday loans my account went into the negative. Yesterday my account was -$470
Today it is -$1611

I spoke with the branch manager yesterday to get a freeze on the account. She said that she could not do it. This was after I had spoken to Chase's claims department and they said that only the branch could. After I left the branch I called Chase customer service, they said that only the branch could place a freeze on the account. I went back into the branch this morning armed with a copy of Regulation - E, Letters to all of the payday loan companies, a written complaint to the OCC, a written complaint to the State of New York banking department, the branch manager's supervisor's name and phone number, an email confirming my complaint with the FTC, and the name and telephone number of the local police department to file a police report.

The branch manager was less than helpful. She claimed that while JP Morgan Chase did business in New York, they are not responsible if there is any illegal activities on their accounts. She was unwilling to freeze my account regardless of the documentation I had presented, as well as the threats I had made to contact her supervisor and the police department to implicate Chase in aiding an illegal activity.

Mind you, I did not walk into the branch with guns a blazing. I maintained a very cordial yet professional demeanor when I had approached the branch manager. After repeated requests to honor my legal rights, I had to start playing hard ball. The branch manager passed me off to one of the bankers to pacify me, and wouldn't you know it, the banker was able to get my accounts frozen within 48 hours. When the branch manager found out that her banker was able to do this she warned me that my account was going to placed into collections. I simply told her that I was not concerned as I have the money to take care of the account to bring it up to positive. I explained to her that I would not deposit any money into the account until it was frozen. Honestly, why would I put money somewhere that I have no control over what happens to it.

Before I left she tried to tell me that I needed to open another account for the negative account to be frozen. I explained to her that under no circumstance would I do such a thing. Needless to say, there are just some people out there that seem to be on gigantic power trips. The branch manger at this particular Chase was definitely one of them.
