Since paydaymax is not here in the states..does that make it illegal? I took a loan out for $300 and their creditors (CDP) say I over almost $1000. Does anyone have any advice??

Write them a letter and explain you are paid in full and they will not be receiving any more money from you, period. They can't sue you, but they can and WILL threaten you, empty threats more or less. They will probably try telling you that you are obligated to follow the laws of wherever they are located, not true. Just tell them:
I am not a resident of Malta, have never prescribed to be a resident of Malta and have no Malta presence, as such am not subject to Malta laws. Have a nice day!
