Well, today is the big day. I closed my account, and tomorrow, all hell will break loose when the payday companies (all 10 of them) will try to take the money out. I don't think I have ever been this nervous. I am not going through this alone, I hired Langhorne to help me clean this mess. I was considering doing it myself, but I don't think I could handle all the stress, paperwork and hassle. I am too mellow, and although over the phone I can show a lot of biting teeth, after the conversation with some jerk collector, I know my day would be ruined and I just didn't want to pass all my frustration and stress onto my family. So I took the easier way out. I've had these loans for years, get them, pay them, then take them again, get one to pay another one - you know the cycle. So despite the stress, I feel kind of liberated, knowing, that tomorrow I will get a paper check from the payroll dept, and it will be all in my hands. I don't remember last time I actually saw my pay like this, as the payday companies always took the most of it before I even checked my checking account. Well, wish me luck, the stage has been set, let's see where it will go.
PS: I will keep you posted, as I know that lot of people here are looking into hiring Langhorne or other debt solution companies vs. doing it themselves.

I wish you the best of luck and I will be going through the same thing on Friday. Hopefully I have taken the right precautions with my bank and my C & D letters. After faxing my letters yesterday and emailing all of them the day before, I have received two calls already and I wont technically default until Friday. One call was from ameriloan and the other was Crestwood Marketing. Crestwood was yelling and screaming over my fax and told me while they were ranting that the lender of my loan Ashland Funding was off shore and did not have to abide by the laws of my state.

I am determined to get all of this behind me and I hope the same for you.

Karin

So, nothing went through, bank kept the word and account remained closed. I don't know how long it takes for the PDLs to find out, but I suppose by tomorrow, they will all try to contact me. I was instructed by Langhorne not to talk to them, just simply tell them that I am being represented by Langhorne and they should contact them with the questions and concerns. I will leave today and tomorrow an "open line" day, I will let them call me at work and at home (though I will still not talk to them). After that, I will instruct the receptionist not to transfer any calls to me at work, and simply let the answering machine pick up at home.
As for Langhorne, so far I cannot complain, but this is just the first day of the fight. I'll see how things go. But I have to say, that they were were nice and described the whole process in a detail, and also were open about their fees and charges and how the money is going to be distributed.

Congrats! :D
It should take a few days for them to realize that they are not getting their funds, so I would have to say that you might not get any calls until tomorrow or Monday at the earliest...some of my companies called right away, others took a few days and still others never called at all.

That is wonderful news!!! Hopefully I will have the same luck tomorrow. I have already been threatended when they recieved my C & D letters that they were taking the full amount on Friday 10/17. My account has been closed and I presented my bank with a letter revoking all ACH transactions excercising my rights to protect my interest per the FDIC and the Consumer Protection Act. They were given more than the required 3 day notice. I wont sleep tonight.

i also had 10 loans and am in the process with langhorne. it has been great. i get 2 calls everyday one in the morning and 1 in the afternoon from us fast cash i think that is because of the dialer. other than that it has been very smooth. i am about 6 months into the process and have not been harrassed once. i even spoke with us fast cash yesterday and settled that on my own for zero they just emailed me the PIF letter. actually i was harresed from BIG but i contated langhorne about the problem and since that day i have not recieved one call from them.

So I got 3 phone calls, one from unidentified PDL (I did not understand the message, huge accent), one from USFastCash and other from 500FastCash, all stating, that they do not and will not work with any 3-rd party debt solution company (such as Langhorne). They wanted me to schedule a re-payment directly, saying, if I refuse a further action will be implemented (whatever that 'action' is). Well, considering that these 2 companies can hardly be considered legal (and I suppose the third one too), I'll take the risk and just let Langhorne to deal with them. Also received an automated email from PayDayMax asking me to contact them (which I didn't do).
Langhorne sent all the necessary letters to all the PDLs I owe money to, so now I'll just let Langhorne to deal with whatever 'games' the PDLs will come up with. I will keep ignoring them and just keep putting money aside for settlement.

Quick update: So far I have to say, nothing major happened. The PDL companies were contacted by Langhorne, and for most part, they left me alone. Some of them tried to offer me an increase on my loan, I guess they thought I'd give them my new account #. Some of them (zip19 for example), were, well - nice, and immediately confirmed they will have no problem negotiating with Langhorne. But I do suspect, that some of them (especially 500FastCash, UnitedCashLoans and USFasCash) will get more aggressive soon, at least that's what I was warned about. So far, there were only a few phone calls, some of them offering settlement, some of them just asking to confirm I closed the account and that I am with Langhorne now. Will see if this is just a quite before storm, or if it indeed will stay quite and I'll be able to settle with the PDLs.

A quick update: Well, not much has been happening. I have to say that whatever Langhorne did seems to work and the PDLs are not bothering me almost at all. I do get an occasional phone call, mostly from 500fastCash and UsFastCash (but no more than once a week), but so far there was no yelling and no threats. Actually, there was one, came from Biggest-Cash when the guy tried to get a payment arrangement from me, or he will have to report my account to the fraud department. Who would've thought PDLs have Fraud Dept ;-) Anyway, I just told him I was with Langhorne, he said OK, and that was the end of the conversation. I also received a phone call from PayDayMax, but after I told the guy I was with Langhorne, he looked through some paperwork, and then said "I'm very sorry, please disregard this phone call". Didn't expect that. So, so far I did not pay to any of the PDLs as I do not have enough cash to make a settlement. I am kind of waiting for February and my tax refund, which should be enough for me to pay them all off. I just need some time without being harassed and being with Langhorne seems to do the trick. At least so far. We'll see how the PDLs behave as the debt matures.
