DO NOT send this "law firm" out of California any money. It is a scam out of Long Beach. They seemed to somehow have phished information on overdue payday loans online or those that have applied for a loan. The person above that posted loan defaults are civil matters is correct (assuming that you did not provide false information or impersonate someone else in getting the loan, which obviously you did not). The only case against you would be a civil breach of contact matter which most organizations would not even file for the amount of money owed (if less than 5K usually not worth the effort to sue). I have contacted the Attorney General's office out of California and filed a report. They appear to be of Indian decent, and are very hard to understand on the phone. I have spoken with one person and he became irrate when I refused to send any money and asked him for the firm name and address as well as his supervising attorney. A legitimate collection agency will send a letter to you in the mail followed be a phone call and will provide an address as well company information and the name of the original debtor. By the way I do work for a real law firm, so he didn't realize he messed with the wrong person! Tell your sister not to worry and simply to ignore the phone calls.
