As an original creditor they are not bound by the FDCPA so unless there are state laws in place they can call your boss to verify your employment. They can't garnish your salary without a court order though.

They should break it down into 4 payments, payable on your next 4 paydays. They can be hard core so in my opinion its best to try and get it done.
