I I ran into some issues some time back, I got divorced and I lost my job within 3 months of each other. I have 2 kids so it was a struggle. I too got into the PayDay Hell. I got to admit, it seems so enticing.. One store with Great Plains: I barrowed $500 on 8/26. I have paid them $800+ to date with 6 more payments they want me to make. Did I agree to the terms, sure. I have been paying on time the $100+ every 2 weeks on Friday like clockwork with NO issues. Something came up this week (an emergency issue) and I will not be able to make the amount this week. Remember for the last 6 payments, I have made every one paying interest and small amount to principle. I called them to say that an emergency came up, I have 2 kids, and a health emergency came up. What are my options. They said none. Its coming out whether I like it or not. SOOO I started doing research on help with my payday loans. I came upon this site and to my eyes to see that I live in NY, an illegal state. So I called my bank, she said oh yes they see this often and I can come in first thing and they will stop everything and get me a new account (I have to wait until my weekend purchases clear my acct, that is why I have to wait until tomorrow). So I have drawn up my letters, got all my ducks in a row and tomorrow I will be on the way to recovery. I have a total of 6 loans. all have been paying on (and have paid over what I barrowed). I pay out $600+ from my $850 every two weeks from my paychecks. I feel like I am drowing..

I already feel like a weight has been lifted and I can not thank all of you for everything. This site has not only opened my eyes, I have learned my lesson and trust me, this will never happen again. BUT thank you for all the information to help me stop having anixity attacks and stress every time the phone rings or the knocks on the door or be afraid to check my mail box. I can now walk with my head high!

You're not alone. Most of us out here went through similiar times. I sure did. Like you, I stumbled onto this site. I got educated, i got support and I got control of my $$$$ again. Stay strong and keep up the good work. Dont be afraid at whatever stupidity these places will throw at you.......and they will........

Posts like yours are why I'm still on this forum. You are extremely welcome. May I ask that anyone sharing this story pay it forward. If you hear of someone dealing with Payday Loans help them. Give them the benefit of your hard-won experience. We've all been there. Help someone out of PDL hell.
My best wishes for a fantastic holiday season!

I have. I told everyone I know about this "scam". I already feel so much better. My family and children have already noticed a change in me. Im not so stressed or cranky. I am enjoying my days...

My next question is this, in trying to get the overfunds back, obviously I am not giving them my new checking account #. How should I demand the overpayment? Mail via a check or gift card?
