Chieftain Funding/ Loan Point USA

I received a call from a company who identified themselves as "United" and claimed to be a legal firm calling on behalf of Chieftain Funding aka Loan Point USA. The number "United" called from was 1-888-839-1711. I have not been able to find any info on this number in my internet searches.
During the call, the gentleman I spoke with denied he was a debt collector, although he tried to get me to make payment arrangements and give him a credit card number or debit card number, and stated he was merely informing me I was going to jail for fraud and writing a bad check and quoted some case law number. he stated he would notify my place of employment and come there in person to serve me the papers.
He then tried again to get me to make payment arrangements and give him my social security number and a debit or credit card number.
I refused all of his requests and told him I didn't even remember his company or the company he claimed to represent. He told me it was a internet payday loan from 2007.
He then called my parent's house and told my Dad everything he said to me and told my Dad if I didn't pay 946.00 immediately I was going to jail.
I live in Alabama in case that's relevant.

I did not found any information on Chieftain Funding when I tried to search it on Google. I feel this can be a scam trying to collect money from you. I don't think they are law firm. They can be debt collectors trying to collect money from you illegally. If they are a law firm, then they shouldn't have called your parent's house for your debts. The next time when they call you, ask them to validate your debt. If they don't own your debt account, then won't be able to validate the debt and thus, they will lose the right to contact you or collect the debt from you.

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
It appears to be a scam. You have the correct step by not revealing your confidential information in the phone. You should never tell your social security number, credit card number, or a debit card number to anyone calling you. Even if they were real, they could not have threatened you. Under federal law, it is illegal. So, next time they call you and start abusing you, tell them you are going to take legal step against them.

I contacted Loan Point USA via their customer service email and informed them the loan I had with them in 2007 was overpaid by more than 200.00 over the principal as they wouldn't stop debiting my account. I gave them 48 hours to comply with marking my account paid in full and send me verification. I told them I had complained with the Alabama attorney general (which I did), filed a complaint with the BBB (which I did) and that I had sought legal counsel.
And? What did they say? I haven't gotten one email or anything
And? What did they say? I haven't gotten one email or anything from LoanPointUSA since a "Quality Assurance Supervisor" emailed me...they are still pinging my closed bank account for money. Obviously didn't read the letter.
Just curious if you got a response.

I have not received a response yet. So far, the collection calls haven't happened again since that email however.
Yes, this is a scam. I tried to contact them regarding a message
Yes, this is a scam. I tried to contact them regarding a message someone had left me about a bad check that I wrote. I was the victim of identity theft and closed an account that was being used for all sorts of things. This apparently was one of those things. I told the person I was speaking to the case regarding my identity theft. He told me that the locator was going to come to my home or my work and serve me with papers, if I did not pay the amount he indicated. I told him to validate the debt, and that I know they are a collection agency. The person denied it, so I said ok, what is your address, what is your legal company name? I told him that I am aware of my rights and he has to verify my requests in writing if they are legitimate or not. He told me he would see me in court. Too bad in my state public records are available online, and there was no case brought to court against me. I would suggest ignoring the calls. They cannot do anything to you if they do not obey the laws.
