I received 3 threatening messages yesterday (2 on my cell and 1 at work) where they called from 941-961-8518 and 818-338-5046. They said they needed to hear back from me or my attorney immediately. I did some research prior to calling them back and found that this does indeed appear to be a scam. The call went exactly as every description on the net stated. He (Max Jackson with a heavy foreign accent)told me I had an unpaid payday loan, that they were filing three fraud counts against me in DE court at 11am today. He proceeded to read me a string of charges against me, going so far as to start reading me my Miranda rights and stated I owed them 5025.00. I asked who this was through and he told me cashnet (which was paid off 4 months ago). I asked when I took out the loan, he responded 5/23/2007. I informed him I knew this was a scam because I never took a loan in 2007 amd that I would be contacting the FTC. He hung up immediately.

My concern is that they have all my information (SSN, address, bank etc) and they were speaking in a threatening manner about my family. What do I do now?

It's more than likely that these are scammers and they might not even be located in the United States, I've had to deal with this type myself. Depending on what type of threats they were making, it might be a good idea to contact your phone company or, if the situation warrants, the police. But as I say, they're probably not even in this country. If it were me, I'd keep a log of when they call and what they say, just for my own info. You might want to check w/ your state Attorney Generals' office and any State financial regulatory agency as to laws they have regarding this type of call.

I appreciate it. I was unnerved at first when I heard the message because it was threatening and the persons accent sounded Russian. Once I did my research online though, I realized that it was a complete scam. I'd just love to see these guys get nailed, since all the posts online indicate its been an ongoing problem for the last 6 months.

Is it just me or does it seem like this site is receiving a large amount of complaints regarding these bogus attorneys/collection agencies lately? Wonder if it's the economy, if more people are wising up that they don't have to be trapped by PDL's, are the PDL companies getting nervous, or what?

i got a call from american credit services this morning too, but my phone rang at 6:20am, i knew it wasnt a collection agency so i answerd it, low and behold it was acs, she said i am calling on behalf of a law firm and i need your attorney information because we are filing legal papers on monday. i told her she is not from a law firm, she assured me she was, i said no law firm in their right mind would be violating fdcpa by calling somone at 6:20 in the morning. i told her i was sueing the sh&t out of their company and hung up.

it just makes me mad i cant really do anthing because i highly doubt they are even in the united states. they have been calling me for months leaving those 15 minute scripted messages on my answering machine, every time either the number is blocked or i call the number back and its disconnected.

I too have just started getting phone calls from these idiots yesterday.
First they call my cell phone and then they immediately call me at work.
I just let both go into vm and don't answer.
This guy can barely speak English and is calling himself Christopher Alexander. I think not!!!
The # on my caller id is 941-961-8518 and the # he leaves to call back is 415-200-0263.
He claims this is a very urgent matter and I need to call him back with my retained attorney.
He says if me or my attorney don't call back, good luck and God bless.
What an a _ _ hole!
Does he really think people are going to call him back and fall for this crap?

yeah the numbers go back to cell phones and unlisted numbers. the other day i had 3 diffrent messages from them and all 3 listed a diffrent number to call back. i called back all 3 numbers and all of them went to fax machines. its almost like they dont want me to call back so they can keep leaving me those stupid messages.

I find it interesting that this lowlife actually read you your Miranda rights; isn't it only police officers who do that? I mean, if "you have the right to remain silent," aren't they in essence saying you don't have to talk to them? :)

(I know, these calls CAN be scary at first, but after I got a few of them, they were SO melodramatic, I actually had fun talking to the people!

So I got a call from this guy who colled himself Don or John Johnson, not quite sure due to his thick Indian accent. I couldn't help but laugh at the lack of creativity in such a generic name by a scammer. I looked up American Consolidation Services and saw that it was based in Florida, and then ran a reverse look up on the phone number, and it came from San Rafael, CA (415) 223-7576. Then I checked the web for similar scams via google and landed myself here. Good luck to all, just wanted to post my story too.

I got a payday loan in June of this year; I fell into a financial hardship and was not able to pay it off, leaving a balance of 600.00 on my account. I called the payday loan company, Cash Net USA, and made payment arrangements. Then I got a call at work from an unavailable # 000-000-0000, a man with a strong Indian accent answered, I asked who was calling and he wouldn’t tell me so I hung up. I got two more phone calls within 5 minutes so I blocked the number. Then he left the message. I immediately called the number he gave back (646-918-5986) because he had my address, telephone #, date of birth and social security #. I spoke with I think her name was Michelle, she stated she was the supervisor for Zack and that Cash Net USA forwarded my account to her because I didn’t pay my balance, I tried to explain that I already made payment arrangements with the other company but she wouldn’t listen to me. She was very rude and said I’m just trying to do my job, if you don’t want to pay the balance with us you can go to court on Monday, and fight this case. I didn’t have any court notices and I told her this, she stated that was not her problem if I wanted to settle the balance with her I could make a payment of 300.00 and the account would be closed, I told her again that I already made a payment, then she said well you will just have to fight this is court. I called Cash Net after I spoke with her to get my receipt of my payment plan because I thought this was real. The woman from the payday loan said asked if the person I spoke with had a thick accent I said yes and she confirmed that this was a scam, she told me not to give them a dime and forwarded me to a compliance line, and I left a message and hopefully will get a call back. My payday loan company filed a report with the better business bureau, I also file a report with the FTC, all three credit bureau, my bank and (homeland security -989-497-0580) and made all aware I was a victim of identity theft. The officer at homeland security was aware of this scam and told me the next time they call explain to them I was aware they were a fraud company and that I have forwarded their information to homeland security. He assured if I tell them this the calls will stop. He stated this company was out of India, and they have hacked into PayDay Loan companies to gather their information. They have so far but I will keep posted.

I am getting the same calls I am getting set to file criminal charges with the police. I already filed a report. I have also filed a report with the ftc. I can't get them to quit calling me and my friend and job. My boss knows what is going on. I closed my bank account 7 months ago. I tell them I am going to file charges and the guy called back with a license number. The agency that has been calling me is I think american legal consolidation or collection, but the messages they leave are almost the same as above post. I had 8 loans out I only owe on 2 and . But I laugh when they tell me that I owe on the loans that I know I paid off. They have my #sss so this is scary but I am standing my ground. I have not paid them anything because I know this is a scam
