Sorry that it is long, my question is at the bottom ...... I've been receiving calls on my house phone & cell phone from an 866 area code number - On my voice mail there was a message from a man that called himself " Ronnie " with a very deep india sounding accent. This is what he said ..

" I need to speak with you or your attorney, now Andrea, if you do not get back to me, or if I do not hear from your attorney either, well I can only wish you good luck, as the situation falls on you .. thank you, have a good day. "

I called them back & he said Advance America CashNetUsa is bringing me to court for an unpaid Payday Loan that is more than $600.00 and that they are going to arrest me for Check Fraud. But, if I go to Walgreens (His exact words) and pick up a Green Dot Card, put the full amount owed, then send him the number then everything will be dropped against me. I told him that was bullsh*t, I've paid my Payday loans and have never had one with this company but HAVE applied for the company before but was not accepted. He knew my Social Security Number, Address, etc. He then got really mean to me and said I'm going to be arrested on Friday at my place of Employment. This was about a month ago ...

I have still been getting these calls from various people with the same accents, saying the exact same thing, that the " situation falls on me". What my question is can AdvanceAmerica be held accountable for this since they have my social, address, etc? Also, they are claiming to be affiliated with them, so could they have some how gotten my Info from them? I know they are not real and in now way are affiliated with them, but, this is overwhelming and stressing me out beyond belief. How are they getting my information? It really pisses me off that they think they can do this to me.

I would call both companies and then call your local police department and file reports. This totally sounds fishy to me as well. Is it illegal to be criminally prosecuted for a PDL in your state? If yes, lay that one on the scammers the next time they call. At any rate Advance America needs to know that the scammers are using their name.

 Yes, I an experiencing the same thing! Same Indian accent and same company of AmericaAdvance. Then I got another one from a very English guy days later. He was accusing my husband of check fraud but was talking to me about everything. That was my first clue (I was pretty sure they could not disclose to a 2nd party) but he had sooo much information I thought it had to be legitimate! I got his name (Kenneth Bishop with Legal Group law firm) and phone number (202-280-7626) and told him I'd talk to my husband and call him back. It was a very long day, let's say, and here is the eventual rundown. We called Advance America corporate office via Google (with whom we DID have a loan years ago) and finally tracked down their dept department who stated we do NOT have a debt with them. When we explained our phone call they suggested we call the Federal Trade Commision 877-382-4357. Well, guess what they said? "Yes, we know about this. Advance America has had their files STOLEN and apparently sold on the black market." So if you applied, they have your info and so now do these scammers. This "Kenneth" I think got on line with whatever small info he already had and pretended to be a landlord or something to run our credit history. He used that against us by stating we were "criminals who don't pay off our debts because I can see here you filed a bankruptsy in 2010." He read off old addresses, old accounts of ours......threatened to have us arrested. At one point he said, "You should have your lawyer call our lawyer!" I then told him, "I thought you told me YOU were a lawyer?" He began to get irate, hung up on us, and even called my husband a scumbag. Anyway the FTC just wanted to know the number he had last used because they are tracking these s.o.b.'s this way. He has never called back and it has been about 2 weeks. HOWEVER......this has happened three times now with three different frauders!! Take care of one, and another one calls. I hate to say this but they are sharing! Call and continue to call the FTC with every phone call you get. Keep a journal ( I started this too) to keep track of dates, numbers used, names, etc. I did a reverse phone look up and the number was called from downtown Washington, DC. Who knows where they will move to next. You can answer for the first time and ask them for all the info you can get, but then turn it in and do NOT have any more converstations with them at all. Good luck to both of us and hang in there. These guys were good, and I almost paid them 900+ and would have given them enough info to drain my account!! BTW, I also closed my bank account and opened a new one because he read to me my bank's name account number!! All he needed was to find the routing number (and my bank said this is not too hard to find online) and he could have wiped me out! BE PROACTIVE!!

Wow, SCARY. Excellent advice. The only thing I would have done differently here is gotten something in writing from Advance America showing that your debt was paid in full so you could lay that on the scammers the next time they call.
The other question I have is if Advance America's files were indeed stolen and sold to scammers, why in the hell didn't they get the word out to people that their identities were compromised?
What to take from this? DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE!! Demand to see something in writing first!

I am too getting calls from this number 202-280-7626 and she is saying her name is Patricia Murrey. Threatens with a Feloney charge, but does not say what the charges are. Have asked for them to send paper copies of their claim. But I still wait for them in the mail. They stop calling for about a month, so i ask again for them to send paper copies to me. But i have yet to recieve any copies.

I got a call from an unknown number telling me to call immediately 202-280-7626 , for an "Agent Kimberly Cruise" from the check fraud division of the law group - who said "Good Luck" at the end of the voicemail. I called it back, and was transferred to some guy named "Chase Johnson" who threatened to have me arrested at my work. He stated I owed $1082 on a bounced check for an Advance America payday loan back in 2008. "There is a warrant out for your arrest, but we can take this off right now, if you're willing to take care of this." Obviously I was immediately freaked out, thinking "Oh crap, what is this about..." He then stated the facts about a payday loan, that I DID take out back in 2008, and had defaulted on due to a loss of employment. Now, I had been in touch with a collection agency about this earlier this year, but had not heard back from them since. So i thought "Ok, this just got real".... I agreed to talk with him

He stated the call was recorded, asked me a few questions, which I answered. I was freaked out, since I was in a bad situation at the time of the payday loan, and down on my luck at that time. Hell, I am in a tough spot now as well! He said that if I can Moneygram 15% of the restitution amount of $1082, which is $150 to his company (V.P.S.) they will take my name off the warrant list and I can avoid having the local sheriff arrest me at work tomorrow, especially now that he has my current employer's address. That really freaked me out, since I just finished off a legal issue here with my driving record.

Now, looking back at the call, it was probably stupid that I answered them, because he asked me to verify my current address, place of employment, phone number, etc.... and yes now that I think about, my SSN. He also asked me the name of my employer and current supervisor, which I gave him.

Obviously I can't sleep which is why I started looking into this, since he wants me to Moneygram the money in the morning.

I need some input you guys.... anyone?!?

ok, so I am not paying them.... I called him back this morning told him I need a DV letter. He asked "What is that?" followed by this statement.... "Sir, this is not a DEBT, this is regarding a BAD CHECK.... as you have not complied, the local authorities will be paying you a visit in the next 24-48 hours."

Now maybe I am a little naive, but I am also extremely cautious....So....
On the .01% chance there is a "authority" that shows up at my house or work regarding a bad check.....?????? THEN WHAT?!!?

The originating number was from an Agent Kimberly Cruise - 202 280 7626. Then the number they connected me to was 817 962 6815 for a Chase Johnson.

I have reported them to the AG office, the FTC, Advance America, my local police, and to the 3 credit bureaus.

I appreciate everyone's assistance on this! Now I believe they have already phished my email and cell phone, since friends of mine have been getting weird text messages from my number that I never sent.
Also getting weird emails in my inbox this afternoon. So I am cancelling my email and Facebook, etc.... Going to start over from scratch, which sucks, but I think it might me the only way to truly avoid any further damage from this incident

Interesting... I gave the numbers to my buddy who works for the FBI and handles fraud like this. I tried calling "Kimberly" myself and there is never an answer. I find her voicemail really funny - "Agent" Kimberly Chase with "The Law Group" (is she kidding, the law group?) and "agent"?

I'm going to try the other number tomorrow.

The voicemail on the 817 number goes to someone named "Jacob Green"... man these people are a riot. This is why I want to get out of financial services and go into a field where I can freaking destroy people who do things like this... prey on the poor and uneducated with their scams.

Okay so the debt collection scheme you described above is INTERNATIONAL and you don't owe the debt, it's a fake. I video recorded and put up YOU TUBE VIDEOS about this on my you tube account and it's the same phone call and the same "Law Firm Group" or whatever. They give fake American names like John Wayne, Vincent Price, John Johnson, etc. - they're from India.

Um, you can look it up under COOPER LAW FIRM (which is a real law firm) or my you tube name is

superiorwievps

I also have been getting those calls at my work place and its annoying. I don't answer since I know i have no pending legal issues. Its the same number 1-202-280-7626 and the same person Chase Johnson saying that I have a warrant for my arrest. It started like 2 months ago and i checked up on the phone number and name and got to all these posts about it being a scam. I will call them back from another phone to let them know to stop harrasing me at my work place.

at home and at work. The only thing that worked for me is to NOT answer them and to NOT call them back.

They've finally given up for the most part. I get a call once in a blue moon but ignore answering it and then they are done.
