Closed bank account today
Date: Tue, 12/01/2009 - 16:08
Is this true? I asked about balance hold, deposit only, freeze...and nothing. They said it;s not necessary. If nothing is pending today the account shall be closed for good tommorrow.

Now how would I ever get something like that in writing from Bank of America? But if they do reopen my account I'll go straight back to the lady who told me that once closed nothing could reopen it except a deposit. I surely hope she's right.

Guess you could've asked them to type up something while you were in the office; would it be possible to contact the branch and ask the person you spoke with to send you at least an e-mail? Couldn't hurt to ask, anyhow. Hopefully you won't have any problems, keep us posted.

You can also email them to get something in writing. it is very common to request to have things in writing from banks, they will not think it is a weird question and will type something up for you.

From what I have see, BOA is not very reliable with closing accounts for some folks.
You need to read BOA "re-open" policy on accounts. I have a BOA account and the policy simply states that your account is subject to be re-opened if their are deposits that hit the account within 14 business days of it being closed. So please make sure you get clarification from the bank.

This is what I found on BOA website:
"Sometimes after an account is closed, we receive a deposit for credit to the account or a check or other item for payment from the account. If this happens, we may at our option and without any liability to you: either return the deposit, check or other item; or we may reopen the account and accept the deposit, check or other item for you, even if this overdraws your account and causes you to incur overdraft fees".

For once Bank of America did the right thing!!
So I closed the account on monday nov 30th. Today I get an e-mail alert from BOA
Date: 12/02/2009
Insufficient funds amount: $115.00
Transaction Paid: No
Fee Assessed: $0.00
This means they didn't let the payment go through and there's no BOA fee to paid. Usually they charged me 35$ for a NSF fee.
So my account is really closed.
And the people who tried to hit my account...I have a nasty e-mail for them

I'm glad to hear this, maybe BOA is beginning to see the light.

Wonderful news! Just be sure to keep copies of all communications from BOA and the PDLs. Better to be a bit overcautious.
