What now?? Do they go away??

I think in my case, I just want peace of mind and full assurance and to sleep at night. Does us signing these contracts give them the right to steal from us or do we face our debts and pay up?

I am in the same boat as you. I am in NY. I did everything like you did as well as overpaying on all. Honestly it really hasnt been too bad thus far. Since 9/4 I have only gotten a few emails and a few calls. The calls just asked for a call back. They didnt tell me who they were, whatt hey wanted, etc. I was nervous like you. As time goes on the nervousness gets replaced by confidence. Hope you sleep well tonight.........

As far as what they'll do, it depends on the company. PDls' are prohibited in my State; most of mine went quietly away after a few token e-mails/telephone calls. However, I still have one who periodically calls me and it's going on 2 years since I cut them off. I'd paid the loan with them several times over, over the years, but they still insist I owe them money. Oh well, if they don't mind me hanging up, I don't mind if they call.

It is always in the back of my mind that they could pop up again but I now know they cannot do anything to me but call and harass. I always tell them I am recording the call and they hang up.

I think that most of us on these forums feel that way and we are so caught up in trying to figure out if they are legal or illegal in the state we reside in that we don't take a moment to wonder about the contracts that we signed with them(I know, this is true for me). I think in my case, I just want peace of mind and full assurance and to sleep at night. Does us signing these contracts give them the right to steal from us or do we face our debts and pay up? |
They will attempt to call you in the future one way or another. Either the company themselves or a bottom feeding collection agency. If you signed a contract in a state where PDLs are prohibited the contract is null and void according to most state AG offices. So that is assurance in itself. Just do your research and ask questions.
If you have overpaid them then you are through plain and simple. Your peace of mind should set in after you have been educated on your rights and PDL laws in your respective state. I know it is scary but I was there 2 yrs ago. I havent received any calls after that time but they do pop up from time to time offering me loans..LMAO!! Do not worry about them when they call because there is nothing they can do but threaten if they are Illegal lenders. However ensure you have done all your research and paid off what you borrowed at least. In your case if they are all overpaid then you need to demand refunds most definately ;)
Best of Luck!!

If the PDL's are in fact illegal and you DO get contacted by a collection agency, ask that they send you something in writing stating that the debt is legal and what you owe. It's more than likely you'll never get anything. Hang in there, you CAN work your way through this.

i agree, hang in there. some companies call right away some wait what seems like forever to come out of the woodwork (they tend to call around the time people get tax returns, etc.)
but either way, as long as you did the right thing do not worry.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, I needed to hear that and it does make me feel better knowing what and how these PDL companies run their business. Yesterday I sent all my complaint letters to the proper authorities, I don't expect any return from them but at least I got my 2 cents in. Thanks again guys and I will let you know my progress. As far as my "legal" loans, I will have 2 paid off this weekend with a pay as you go debit card... learned that one right away... they can only take what is on the card... it's that or nothing! Thanks a load guys for your support!
