Payday Lender Calling Family Members
Date: Wed, 07/14/2010 - 15:02
Hello,
A local payday lender has been coming to my house looking for my sister, presumably because she owes them money. We have already told them that she does not live here any longer, & that we are not in touch with her because of serious family issues.
They have also been calling my mother's cell phone, probably because my sister listed that phone number as her own. My mother has told them the same thing. (My sister is always dodging bill collectors, so we really, legitimately, never know where she is).
What can I do to get these people to stop bothering us when we are not the ones that owe them money? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Send them a letter, certified return receipt requested forbidding them to come on your property or your mother's, also tell them do NOT call either of you, and state the reasons why. Make sure you date the letter, you might want to send one to the local office and to the corporate office, you can probably locate the corporate office address on the Internet.

Awesome! I was thinking about whether or not I should try to do this, but I didn't want to antagonize them, especially if I was (legally) wrong. I'm not really concerned they're going to take legal action against me, because now that I think about it, they can't really sue me for anything. I don't owe them anything! LOL
Thank you for your quick, detailed response.
