just received a call from someone named grant bishop at some mediation service saying they are calling in reference to a check fraud case that is connected to my name and my social security number. Anyone else get anything like this. I have not called back, but they keep calling repeatedly. So tired of these calls :(

Reminds me of the call I got last Thursday. The caller claimed he was a police officer and that he was calling to collect the payment for the money I borrowed some 13 months ago. He threatened that I should pay immediately or face jail time. He was indeed intimidating but I knew better. I called the bluff and hung up. I also reported the call to the local authorities so they could investigate on the scammer.

Besides, I was able to pull up several complaints posted at http://www.callercenter.com about how the scammers threatened a lot of people to get them to disclose credit card details. I relayed that information to the authorities, too.

I received this same call today at work. it is from Russo and Perlstein mediation services. I told the guy that I know it is a scam and that i have reported them to the AG office and FTC. He said what is a scam? my mediation firm? I said yes. He asked scam in what way? I said that you try to get people to give out their personal information to collect money from them. He said well if you think it is a scam there is no reason to continue to talk with us. we will proceed with processing your papers. On his message it stated it was a check fraud case blah blah blah. I know it is a scam but man, it shakes you up and makes you wonder what if they are legit. it is terrible :( I tried looking this company up on the internet and i get nothing and the phone number does not appear to come up in a reverse look up either.

I fell for this a few months back and paid on some pay day loan I don't remember ever taking out. I ended up paying $800 but after doing some research I worked with my bank and they refunded the money, thank God for Chase. Anyway, in Texas after 4 years of the LAST payment ever made on any account, there is no legal course of action they can take. Also, the companies outside the state need to have a Surety Bond in order to collect on any debt as well. I sent all this information to them and demanded to see the documentation and they have not called or emailed me since, even after my bank refunded the money.

Look into this for your state...here it is for Texas.
