My account with them was recently turned over to Alliance Asset Management and I am trying to determine how to deal with them. Thank you.

Are they listed in the licensee dat base for Ohio below?

If they aren't listed, they aren't licensed to lend to Ohio residents. As far as the collection agency, if they called you, tell them that according to the FDCPA they have 5 days after their first initial contact with you to send you a dunning letter (letter of colelction) through the mail and you will not admit or dent to owing this bill until you receive proper documentation via the mail as required by federal law. If they refuse to send you a letter of collection thru the mail after you have told them theis and they continue to call you, file a complaint against them with the FTC and your attorney general, make sure in your complaint you make it clear that you are being harassed by this company on the telephone and have not received ANY letter of collection even after you requested it.

I sent an e-mail to GECC stating that I've learned they are an illegal lender and requesting that my file with the collection agency be closed. I followed the form letter for dealing with illegal lenders with a few modifications. A quick search of the forums, shows that several people have dealt with (or are dealing) with GECC, so I will happily share what if any progress is made. Nothing may come of it and I may still end up dealing with the collection agency, but at least I know I've tried my best.

That's right, just make sure you understand your rights under the FDCPA, that could work in your favor if you utilize it correctly.

I received the Attorney General complaints on file in my e-mail today. I also received a confirmation that my e-mail had been received by GECC. I sent the e-mail Saturday and received confirmation this morning. It looks like every complaint that was filed with the Ohio Attorney General's office was closed satisfactorily. Today's the first day that GECC's collection agency hasn't called (knock on wood), so I'm hopeful that mine will be, too. Thanks as always for your support and quick answers to my questions!

Still haven't heard anything! I received a letter in the mail from Alliance on Friday, but it was dated before my last phone call from them. I know this sounds like a ridiculous question, but do I just do nothing and wait for them to possibly reestablish contact or should I try to find out what's going on?
