Cashnet IS a legal lender and they can sue you but not for fraud. Personally I would send this attorney a cease and desist letter and inform him of the FDCPA violations he has committed.

Should she ask him for documentation of this debt and see if he will send it? If she truly owes this money, she wants to pay it back. She admits that she probably still owes Cashnet money, but shouldn't she ask them directly how much she owes and see if she can work it out with them? This could be just a scam, but my daughter is scared and wants to pay her debts if they are legitimate.

Do not pay this, this is a scam. As paul said, ACS and its cohorts use CashNet as their name when scamming you for money. Get CashNetUSA on the phone and ask them to confirm you do not owe anything.
