Check Smart- Store Front- Ohio
Date: Wed, 06/30/2010 - 08:56
Hello,
I had a payday loan with Checksmart for $1000 at the store. The check was returned and I attempted to make payment arrangements. I called the corporate office and they refused to accepts payments and demanded $500 (half). They refused to give me a physical address and said they would not accept any payments. They refused to stop calling me at home and work and said they'd call as much as they wanted until I paid. In fact, after I hung up they called 3 more times. They called 4x at work and left messages.
I just filed complaints with the BBB, OH Attny Gen office, and FTC. I'm going to send a C & D letter with a $100 money order to the store front. That's all I can pay at the moment.
How does that sound? Help.

It sounds like Checkmsart is the creditor (not a third-party debt collector). You can't tell a creditor to stop contacting you. That only works with third-party debt collectors.

that is correct with the home calls, but the consumer can send a C&D in regards to the calls at work.the creditor no matter who they are must abide by that.as far as the calls to home.the person can send a c&d letter, but that will most likely get them sued by the creditor.
