I am glad to hear that you got signed up on this site will have an opportunity to speak to someone. Please provide us with more information such as what state you live in, how much you borrowed and how much you have paid back in fees and principal.
Well first of all you need to read the sticky on closing your account that provides alot of information. As far as staying at the same bank/credit union that can be a risky decision on your part.
There have been plenty of members on here that have had debits taken out of their new accounts without them providing the pdl's the new information on there new accounts. I would highly recommend that you go to a completely different bank otherwise you will run the risk of having these pdl's getting ahold of your information and draining your new account dry.

Admittedly I don't have a whole lot of experience with your particular situation, but I would make sure the Credit Union will not cross reference your new account to pay checks or debit against your old account. There are members here with more experience closer related , but I have seen it suggested to make sure a complete ACH block is placed on your old account. That may help. Good luck.
