Has anyone closed a Bank of America account recently? I need to do this, but wondering if there are any surprises in store. I've had the account for a long time, and it kills me to have to do it, but I know I must to begin to deal with MyCashNow rather than paying them a rollover fee continously. I've paid the principal and then some in fees alone on this specific loan. The next payment comes due at the end of the month. I've had many loans with them over the years and have never defaulted. It was just a constant juggling act. I have to stop and take control back now.

So ... if you've closed an account recently at BoA due to payday loans, was it effective? Did BoA give you a hard time? When it was closed, was it really closed?

I just closed my BOA account last week. I was not overdrawn so I think that may have helped. It took TWO HOURS and the customer service rep that I was dealing with called customer support 3 different times because she was not getting the answers that we needed. They kept telling her that any ACH debit or credit would force the account back open and that there was no time limit. I was ready to cry and she could see it in my face. She finally got someone else at the bank involved and she told them that any CREDIT ACH would force it open, but not any DEBIT. So she opened a new account for me, transferred the little bit of money I had in the old account to the new one and closed the old one. On Friday when the PDLs tried to hit my old account, I did get notice that they were trying but that was it. No fees were charged to me. The one thing that helped was on here people told me to be persistant and not take no for an answer. I got "NO" at least 10 times over the two hour period, but I wouldn't leave until someone could help me. I kept saying "I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THERE IS SOMETHING YOU CAN DO."...Be Persistant!!! Good Luck

Thanks for the info reeree. I've had my account for a long time with them, it's not overdrawn. It's killing me to have to close it, but I must. I do have another checking account with them that I barely use.

One has to wonder if this is a scam in itself? If you close the account it should be closed? Forcing the acct back open with an ACH debit in order to charge a fee can't possibly be legit? Why would you bother closing it then? Unbelievable.

Well, I'll try my hand at it next week. It's too late to stop my next direct deposit coming in so I need to wait for that and then I'll have about 9 days before the pdl hits.

New2011,

They did tell her that ANY ACH would force the account open, but the lady on the phone in customer care was mistaken. Any CREDIT forces it open, but a DEBIT does not. My PDLs tried to debit the old account and got NOTHING because I had transferred my direct deposit to go to the new account.

I understand what you mean about not wanting to close your account since you have been with them for so long. I had the same account with Bank of America for 19 years and it killed me to have to close it. But not as much as paying those loan sharking fees each week...for that I'll take the new account.

Good luck...go close your account the minute that your direct deposit hits!

When I closed my account, I called the fraud department, and did it over the phone. If they close it as a fraud, no transactions will go in or out. Of course, I was not overdrawn, so maybe that was a difference. B of A I hear tell can be a pain in the butt dealing with PDL's, but I must be lucky because my experience was easy as pie.

I actually work for B of A and I have seen accounts re-open with ach debits. If they come in within 2-3 days of the account being closed, it may open back up. I would recomend calling Customer Service to verify that your account is closed and not pending closure. When it is in that pending closure status, right after you close it, thats when it came be re-opened.
