Can I go to jail for not paying a consumer loan?
I took out a small consumer loan with Sun Loan Company. It was not a payday loan and no checks changed hands.I am on SSI and Social Security. I did move out of state because I have 3 children that I could not take care of due to an accident. They are now calling my family everyday, threatening to take me to jail, telling them it will be considered theft over 1000. Which I dont understand because the loan was only for 250.00. What are my rights here and how can I get this resolved without going to jail? Thank you, Paula
Also, it is still with the original company. It has not been bought or sold as Sun Loan are the ones that are contacting my family. When I called the loan company to speak with them, as soon as I told them who I was the lady started yelling at me so I told her I didnt have to take that from her and I hung up. She is threatening me with jail time and I have 3 kids, one of them being severely mr. I am worried about this to the point its making me sick. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Paula
