If I send out cease and desist letters to all the PDL companies, since they are not licensed to lend in the state of CT, won't the letters be meaningless? I am worried that they are going to harass me at my job and I don't want to risk losing it because they won't stop calling.

The original creditor is not bound by a cease and desist demand, only a third party collector is. However, please make sure that you have your bank account secured BEFORE you send ANY letters to them revoking their rights to debit your account, and to inform them you are aware of the fact that they are not licensed to lend to CT residents. If you don't have your account secured, they will go in and debit the entire amount.

As far as trying to stop them from calling your place of employment or home. All you can do is demand they not call your place of employment, that doesn't mean they will abide by your wishes. The law states that if you tell them not to call you at your place of employment because you are not permitted to accept personal phone calls they (the creditor) should stop, BUT, please don't expect them to follow the law because obviously they didn't to begin with. In your best interest, do not speak with them on the phone, hang up immediately, they will tire sooner of speaking to thin air then if you give them someone to argue with. You may or may not continue to be harassed over the phone, it's very hard to predict what will happen. Please make sure you file complaints about these companies with the FTC, your Attorney General, and the BBB.

eventually they will send it to a 3rd party CA then you will be able to send a c&d, i sent them to the origonal company anyways, some accepted it and some didnt, i wouldnt say it was a complete waste of my time. you will have to come up with a plan to either pay back the principle, or if you already have. either way its hard to say. i would send them the letters anyways, that might expedite them sending it to a 3rd party once they realize they are wasting their time.
