I am paying off an old ipdl from these jerks.. My question is do I HAVE to pay by moneygram? Cant I just send a money order to them and be done with them.

I do NOT want to give them my debit card info....

The settle amount is $ 140.00.

This is the email I got today.

Quote:
Reminder:
Your last chance to pay the reduced balance offered is tomorrow Friday 10/05/07. If calling in a debit/credit card, you must call in before 2pm CST, otherwise payment will have to be made via Moneygram, as described in settlement offer. If paying Moneygram, please call or email reference # so we may credit and close your account as soon as possible. Once settlement offer is paid, you will be sent a confirmation of account closure with a zero balance. Please call if any questions 1-800-410-5568

Is money order OK to send?

Also, if you dont send in the settle amount what can they do to you?

Have you thought about getting a prepaid visa or mastercard that they sell at like Walmart or Walgreens for this? Just a suggestion, that way you are only giving them that number and only allowing that money paid directly to them without the possibility of them getting anymore from you?

But no matter what, make sure you call and keep checking up until you get that confirmation. I got screwed because I didn't check to make sure the right person got the information that I sent money! So make sure it needs to get to whomever wants it....And if no one's name is on it, then keep calling to make sure any rep you get a hold of can see it on the notes and see if a letter has been sent.

tweety, if you accept the "settlement", get a pre-paid card. Only put the exact amount of the "settlement" on it. Give them that card number for their payment. If you do not want to accept their settlement, what will they do? They will just "up" the amount you owe them a few hundred bucks (God, I love them). Whichever you decide. If you want to be rid of them, do the pre-paid card deal. If you feel as though they are unlicensed/illegal and don't want to settle, then they'll just "re-adjust" your amount owed and hound the hell out of you. I hate unlicensed/illegal pdls. And this is one of them. Whatever you decide, just let us know! :D

I think the pre-paid visa is the best idea, too. It protects your account information. Like Ladybug said, just be sure to cut it up and never use it again. The pre-paid visa is probably cheaper than moneygram. But, if you don't really have the settlement money or don't feel that it is a fair amount, I doubt there is anything that they can really do other than keep sending letters or calling. If it is going to put you into a bind financially, I wouldn't even think twice about not paying them right now. After all, they are not legal, anyway. It is more important to take care of yourself. :-)
