Next Step To Ending The PDL Nightmare?

Hello Good People,

Thank you so much for all the helpful info you've provided so far. This has been a rough weekend for me mentally (I suffer from acute anxiety to begin with) and I'm wondering if you can advise me what's going to happen next?

Bank account has been closed-cannot be forced open.

Direct deposits are going into the new account.

The employer has stated they will not grant voluntary wage assessments-they will only garnish if they have a court order with a case number (to put into the computer). We're going to provide a letter anyway just to be extra safe.

C&D Letters have been mailed (certified with signature confirmation) although now I'm not sure the ones for Credit Protection Depot went to a current address.

These PLD accounts were opened over 2 years ago, and I don't recall who the references are that were listed, but we have advised those that might be getting calls whats up.

The debits were scheduled to come out last Friday, July 25th. My question is, what's going to happen next? When will the calls start coming in? What do I tell them?

Thanks!
WJ

I think we're prepared for any BS but I'm wondering what to say to them? I think we should ask them for a mailing address (and from what I can tell from what I've read here they won't provide one) as well as requesting a copy of their license to loan funds in Indiana (something else they can't provide).

2 of these PDLs are credit protection dept, the other 2 MTE. In each case, one is overpaid and he otehr tehre is money owed on the principle, but basically, if we could get a refund we would be even.

It sounds like you are on the right track to being pdl free.:) Do not give out your new bank account information to anyone, I hope that you have opened your new account at a different bank or been assured 100% that these pdl's won't get into your old account if you are still with the same bank.

Hi ladybug,

My gal at my bank did assure us there's no way our new account can be debited. I have her business card and I've been checking my account often. But the waiting to see what happens next is killing me. However, it's no longer killing our family's ability to buy food!

jt. . .you have half the battle over by closing that account and gaining control of your money. I know about the waiting game. I couldn't stand it either, and as a result I probably pushed too many buttons, (according to the PDLs anyway) but in the end I did come out the victor. . . . you will too. Keep us posted.

heres an email that came late last night from paychecktoday:

Your last payment was returned. We are now offering you a settlement
on this account prior to sending this to the credit bureau and a third
party collector. We attempted to contact you via email and telephone
on several occasions with no success. Please respond to this email
asap and advise as this is a one time offer that will be void after 3
business days. We accept the following forms of payment:

VISA
MASTERCARD
MONEYGRAM
DIRECT DEBIT FROM BANK ACCOUNT

Please respond asap to settle this account.

Sincerely,

Paychecktoday
Recovery Department
866-756-0600

They have been mailed a physical C&D letter as well as 2 over email. What do I do next?
Note: the payment was just returned last Friday-there have been no calls (thankfully) and this is the second email. I overpaid this company by $35.00.

We have received information from your bank that you have closed the account, which you authorized to be debited in order to repay your legally binding loan obligation. We consider this to be a refusal to repay your debt and will immediately initiate action to protect our interest. We must require that you render your payment in the amount of $334.38 via western union quick collect or moneygram immediately. This payment reflects your balance as of July 30th 2008.

Depending on the circumstances surrounding how you obtained the loan, we may also initiate internal investigation to ensure all information submitted on the loan application was accurate and not done fraudulently in order to attempt to obtain a loan under false pretenses

(payment info, where to send ect)
If this account is referred for further review and action to our outside firm for additional collection efforts, it will commence activity on the account to be done to the fullest extent of the law in order to protect our interest in this matter. I would highly suggest you call 1-866-645-1661 to resolve this matter immediately. This is the only way for you to resolve this very serious situation, which you have initiated. Your failure to do so may result in the above-mentioned action being taken

Thank you,

I guess the C&D letters are either being ignored or not received. Phones ringing pretty good around here.

I don't have a fax machine and the only place I know of is $2.00 a sheet.

Anyone have an email for creditprotection depot?

jt. . .thanks for confirming that address is non working for incoming emails. Chances are they are playing dumb. . .they got the C and D letters but by not acknowledging it they can say, oopsy, did I do that? You are right. . .it's the waiting game time. PDLs are good at that! Good luck with the faxes. Keep us posted.

I got an email from paydaymax today offering a special rate on a new loan. I figured it was just spam but wanted to check in hopes my account was PIF and they hadn't bothered to tell me.

I couldn't log in. I'm guessing this just means we're banned?

Hi Folks,

Just wanted to check in. Our kids go back to school tomorrow so we've been busy with all that. The good news is, at least theres money to buy there supplies, which we wouldn't have if not for this sit and all you wonderful posters.

We have received no phone calls, no emails no snail mail, nothing in the last week (the last thing was a BBB response). The only call I did receive (now over a week ago) I requested a dunning letter which they claimed was mailed Aug 4th-still nothing.

But wow, we sure have been getting the loan offers in the email box!

Hi jt, I'm in the same boat but two weeks behind you. The solid waste hits the fan tomorrow morning when they attempt to debit a closed account. After that I'm expecting strongly worded letters from all 8 of my PDLs.

Did you file your BBB complaints online? Did you file with the FTC?

Good luck, I'm right behind you.

Hi Chroma,

I did file with the BBB-got one standard BS respsonse from MTE. I haven't went with the FTC yet. I'm waiting for something to happen so I can forward it to the guy at the IND Office of Financial Institutions.

I am getting a bunch of emails from assorted CPD companies offering loans. I think they're on an account fishing expedition.

What state are you in? When it comes to anxiety, I can tell you being in the right state (IN, IL, NY) makes all the world of difference.

We're still playing catch up on our bills from this PDL mess, but theres a twinkle now at the end of the tunnel. Oh, and I had $$$ to buy my kids' school supplies and we get to eat.

I say relish your first full paycheck you get to keep next week.

You know, as the shame finally lifted and I started telling friends and family of our mess, I was shocked to find out how many more people had been in this same boat at one time or another.

I'm in NJ, and this morning all the PDLs found a closed account. I also paid my mortgage and some bills I was behind in. I saved the principal I owed four of the 8 lenders. I await the emails. My wife shut off the ringers on our phones. I expect them to start harassing me at work. The C&D letters have been emails, but they are going out certified tomorrow.

PDLs are illegal in NJ, and the Department of Banking is getting a letter. I have a thread here called seven payday loans (I didn't realize I had eight!) and I was NJ Troubled when I started it.

Still troubled, but it was nice to actually have money this payday.
