I have been reading and I just want to make sure... if the PDL is illegal, we are only obligated to pay the principal? I live in CT where payday loans are illegal... if a PDL is legal, then am I still only obligated to pay the principal b/c I live in CT?
As far as my bank account. I receive direct deposit. Should I put my account on "Deposit Only" status until I can get my employer on board with the new account. I am afraid to just go ahead and close my checking account b/c I do not want to mess up our paychecks. Any advice on how to do this would be great. Thanks!

All of them are Illegal. You only owe the principal balance. If PDLs are prohibited in CY period then you only owe the principal on the loans becaause you are a CT resident. I am guessing these are all internet loans correct?

Thank you! I cannot tell you what a relief this is. Should I just go ahead and send out the letters via email or try and call them first and talk to them. I guess I am just worried about making them angry if they would be willing to work with me first. And I will not contact them at all until I put our account on Deposit Only and set up the new one. Thanks again!

Secure your bank account first then send them the proposal letters. I would not call them just send them emails, faxes, or USPS.

I foolishly took out some PDL's, and are struggling to pay them back. I did pay some of them back, however, I paid them much more than was originally borrowed. I am currently trying to deal with 3 companies. The first is Discount Advantage. They referred my account over to a collection agency CPD. When contacted by CPD they originally told me I owed $867.00 I made a payment of $287.50. I finally contacted them to ask about paying the rest of what I owed. They agreed to $105.00 every other week. I have made four payments of $106.00 each. My original loan was only for $500.00. I have paid well over this amount. I have two more payments to make. Will I be rid of them? When I questioned the company if they would send me a letter or an e-mail indicating the loan was paid in full, they said they do not do this. I will only stop getting e-mails that state I have to make a payment. I am afraid they will continue to send me e-mails, and making phone calls telling me I have to continue to pay.
Next I had a loan with the National Money Store. They deducted money from my checking account, and then I was unable to keep up with their fees. I got a call from A.S and associates(ms.Robin Carter). She demanded that I send $597.00 in two days or she would file a suit against me. She agreed to take 1/2 of the money and I could send the balance in 2 weeks. I sent her $300.00 which is waht the National Money store website indicated I owed. I have not sent her the additional $297.00 and am afraid that she will contact me again with a larger amount due. I borrowed $250.00 from National Money store.
Finally I am getting threatening phone calls from different numbers all giving the same speach, advising me that I am going to be arrested, and that I have all these charges against me. While I know they are not going to arrest me, I am upset because I cannot get information from the caller as to who they are calling for. I believe it is Star Cash Processing. When I contacted them they said that I would have to wait to hear from their "legal department". I only want to pay back the money I received from them, and if necessary some interest, but I cannot afford to pay back what these companies are asking for. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and the FTC but do not know what else to do. The form I received from the District Attorney of NY is a bit confusing. I need some help in dealing with these people, and would appreciate any advise anyone can give me. I know I would never request a loan from any of these PDL companies again, and would rather starve then have this annoyance. Any suggestions? I live in NY and believe that PDL's are illegal here. This I did not know when I received the funds.
