I recieved a call today from someone with a very strong indian accent claiming to be in Cali. He said he is an attorney representing some Federal Banking co. a parent company of a lender that I got an online loan from. He would not tell me the name of the company, saying they have so many companies beneath them. But said if i didn't come up with $900 in 2 hours I would be going to court, and have a lawsuit filed against my social security number. They also said they would be sending all the legal paperwork to my job. When I said that I never got any calls about the loan or anything in the mail, they replied saying on the contract they said they would never call, only pursue legal action. I did get a PDL but not 100% sure from them, they won't even tell me what site they represent, they said they have like 1000 sites...Please help!

This is a scam - I repeat SCAM! If you truly owe them money they would send you a bill through the USPS. Don't give them ANY personal information over the phone, and especially your bank account information. They can't arrest you for owing a debt, that is a civil matter. Next time they call tell them to send you proof of documentation via the mail that you owe such a debt, otherwise you won't cooperate.

I agree with Shazzers; if they call again, tell them to send you something in writing on company letterhead stating that you do in fact have a legit debt, see what they say to that. (I'm betting they'll say they don't have to do that). Just for your own information, you might want to keep a record of when they call and what they say.

Same thing happened to me today. They told me I would spend 6 months in jail if I didn't pay off a loan. Funny thing is, I have paid off my payday loans. So then they tried to tell me it was for refinancing fees and interest rates. Again, none of the payday loan compaines I have dealt with in the past say I owe them anything. My call was from a Kira Anderson at Venusion Associates. 646-397-1878

Listen to Shazzers! These type's of companies are scams. It's true if they are legal they will have your mailing address. So many of these creeps buy names and phone numbers to call and scare people into paying them. Unfortunately it works more times then not that's why they continue to make random calls.

I got a call from Erie Group today saying I owe this payday loan company 500.00 and in order to stop them from taking me to courts is that I would need to give them 10% down which is 50.00. I have until 5:00 or they would have to call my employer and my back to sign off that I work there and I agreed to the terms of the payday loans. How true is this? What do I need to do?

I don't know anything about Erie Group, probably others here can give you better advice; in what State do you live, did you take out a PDL, and was this an online or storefront loan? Just my opinion but if they go through that "you have until 5:00" spiel, I would THINK they're more than likely a bottomfeeder collection agency or an out and out scammer. If they call again, tell them you want something in writing, see what they say to that.

I also received a call from someone with a very strong indian accent claiming to be representing some kind of law firm. Very calmly I told him I believe he's not from any law firm and that he is calling from skype or some other internet based phone provider. His answer was priceless; he said: f### you motherf####! You bloody assh####
I guess this is the ultimate proof that these guys are nothing but clowns. What kind of law firm would actually curse you out??

Oh yeah, I LOVE that "and I wish you luck!" thing, don't you? I really think all of these bottom feeders go by a script. (and when I was being bothered by them, every once and a while I'd LOVE to try and throw them off the script; they sure DO get mad, don't they? :)
