when i move to england, can credit companies check my score

I am moving to the uk possibly forever (although one never knows) and am tempted to leave my 40K in credit debt here. I don't have a bad score yet but i'm tempted to let them charge off in order to start new with a chunk of $ from the sale of my home. If we ever returned to the US, my hubby would have good credit and I wouldn't. My concern would be that someone in england could check my fico score and have it adversely affect me there. They work under a National Insurance Number there instead of a ss number (obviously). Any info or reccommendations?

Well, I'm pretty sure that leaving the country can stop the statute of limitations clock until you return...so if you returned, I'd be worried less about the credit score than a lawsuit to collect payment.
