FL internet payday loan laws

Are internet payday loans legal in FL? I took out a loan for $400 and 2yrs ago and now the total is $1400. I rec'd a call today from a company claiming to be as law firm. They said I could be arrested as soon as Monday if I don't pay the entire within 2 hrs. Is there any truth to this?

No truth whatsoever. You can't be arrested and you can sue the company who said so. Internet loans are legal in Florida but only if the company is licensed there. Most are not. If they are not Florida law makes the loans no collectible. Send a letter to the collection agency and tell them that they are in violastion of the FDCPA for posing as a law firm and threatening you with arrest and that you are filing a complaint with the Florida Attorney General and the Florida Dept of Financial Services. Also make them prove that they are licensed to collect in Florida and the lender was licensed in Florida. They will crawl back under the rock from where thy came.
