Approximately 3 years ago I began taking out payday loans. One at a time and it seemed i would keep paying off one and then having to pull out another one. Approximately 2 years ago I had 3 going simultaneously. I was keeping up with the payments but then some unexpected circumstances occured and i ended up defaulting on them. I had contacted 2 of them and asked if they could bill me as I had to shut down my checking account that the ACH was coming from due to the fees that were being assessed. They stated they could not bill me and I would need to make the paymetns electronically. Well I didnt feel comfortable giving that information to them again so they never got paid. Just recently I received a call from a supposed law office/collection agency stating that they were contacting me regarding a claim in their office for a bad check that they were going to be filing with the courts. I contacted the office and they said it was for one of the payday loans and the original amount of approximately 200 that i owed them had now grown to over $1000. Is this legal for them to do? I live in Pennsylvania and I'm being told that they do not have the power to collect these kind of debts that they are just scare tactics. I dont know if i should contact a lawyer or not?

All pdl's are prohibited in PA...thus the contract is invalid. Simply send the following to the CA/law office calling you.

Dear Collector Man

I hereby demand you cease and desist all contact with me and anyone associated with my in regards to account # ________, original creditor______________. Payday loans are prohibited in my state of PA and thus the contract I signed is invalid, null and void. I am revoking any and all ACH rights and any wage assingments I might have signed.
