Hey everyone... first of all, thanks SO much for all the valuable info on here!

I live in NJ and have 4 payday loans (but just paid 1 of them off, "fees" included). So I have 3 more that are considered still open, but just realized how illegal these are in NJ.

Here's what I have:

1) Star Cash Processing, borrowed $300, paid $895 in total (just paid off on 1/15) and is considered PIF

2) Fast & Reliable Cash, borrowed $500, paid $1363 so far...
3) Integrity, borrowed $500, paid $1125 so far...
4) PDLLoansCenter, borrowed $500, paid $1155 so far...

I have read that some people have gotten refunds for amts over the original loan amt. Do you think I could recoop some of the $ I "overpaid" to StarCash, eventhough the loan is considered paid off and paid in full?

My next plan is to close my bank account and re-open a new one. That way the remaining 3 loans can't deduct the next "fees" on 1/31. According to these threads, I should be considered PIF for the other 3 accounts right?

What are the chances of getting refunds for any of these? I've def paid way over what was originally deposited into my account..and I don't want to give them another penny.

What are my next steps from here? Does anyone have any experience with any of the above PD companies? They were all internet companies, and I already looked and see that they are illegal in NJ.

All advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

And fwiw, these are all internet lenders, so I believe all illegal in NJ.

Any help of what to do from here is greatly appreciated!! They're scheduled to deduct "fees" again on the 31st. I've already gone ahead and opened a new checking account... and plan on closing the old one before the 31st. What next?

Yes they are all illegal, read your payday loan laws at the link below:

(I am NJGirl, but wasn't logged in for this entire thread...)

I've taken the following steps:

1) Opened a new BoA account
2) I plan on closing my current BoA account prior to the next withdraw date of 1/31

Steps to take next? (can someone tell me if I'm doing this right...)

3) Write C&D letters to my remaining 3 payday loans which includes:
- telling them they can no longer do ACH debits on my bank.
(do I need to mention the wage assignments part? All the work info I had provided was false.... IE, they don't have the phone number to my job... and all my supervisor info was also made up. I also don't want to goto my HR dept and say I'm blocking a wage assignment.. since I've overpaid on all my accounts, could they actually do that?)

- include how I've already met my financial obligation of the principal and in fact have overpaid.

- request the account be considered PIF, as well as request a refund for amt over the principle

On the letter I'm going to CC the Better Business Bureu, NJ State Attorney's office, and the FTC. Then mail actual copies to those locations.

Is there anything else I need to do?

You need to close your checking account BEFORE you send your letters. Once they receive letter, they will try to debit your account. I am in process of sending you the letter I sent to my payday loan via PM. You can change the wording to suit you, but close the account before you send them.

There is a step by step guideline to follow in the link I gave you above, don't skip any of the steps.

I would just sent the pdls the letter I sent you via PM. If you gave them the correct company where you work, then you may want to notify them (just in case). However I don't think it will go that far. None of my pdls threatened to contact my employer after they received my letters.

Thanks Aubrey. And thanks for the letter template!

Different members on here have had success dealing with Fast & Reliable and Integrity Advance. So I feel confident I will too.

My other remaining "open" account is with PDLLoansCenter. At least that is who has been deducting from my account...

I "PIF" Star Cash last Friday... but I'm going to contact them too and see if I can get a refund of what I overpaid.

But I feel pretty good about all of this already :)

Keep trying for refunds, you never know! :) And keep us posted

Thanks for the tip. I spoke to the BoA branch manager and informed him of the situation. I asked him if an ACH will force a closed account to re-open. He said it shouldn't, but if it does and I get charged any fees, etc, that I'll get them refunded.

Strangely, I just called PDLLoans Center and they just told me that my account is showing as PIF and that no further transactions are scheduled with my account or bank account.

Seems weird, but I'll take it?? Usually they tell you the balance, etc and what the next payment is... and this time, the girl looked up my account number and is showing it as PIF. Should I believe her?? (She had no idea I was going to do anything about the account etc).

I asked them for this, and they said their systems don't allow them to do it. So I waited and called back later and asked a different rep... and she said their "email systems are down" and I would get an email later in the day. Hmmm...

Either way, my bank account is now closed, so if they were planning on doing something, it won't work.

But both times I called, both reps said I was showing a zero balance. I think when I called last week to get information, the supervisor I spoke to hooked me up. I told him I knew they were illegal in NJ, and that I've already overpaid. I also complained about how this is now the 3rd company that has "taken over" the account... and he couldn't find me in like 4 different systems. And so whatever. I'll take it :p

Update!

I sent my letters yesterday morning to my remaining 3 Payday lenders.

PDL Loans Center/RBV told me earlier in the week that they were showing me as a zero balance and account PIF. When I asked them for it in writing, they told me they couldn't do that... "their systems aren't set up that way?" I sent them a C&D letter anyway, asking for a refund. I figured it didn't hurt to try...

Fast & Reliable - they sent me a refund letter today, along with a release document to sign... Less than 24 hrs, that was fast :p

Integrity Advance - no response yet

Either way, I'm super happy. thanks again to this great site!!
