-How much you borrowed.
-How much you paid so far.
-The state in which you reside.

rintexas, i think shazzers was explaining to the poster that this can be done by oneself. it is not as hard as it looks as long you are familiar with your state laws. that is why she asked the questions about state, lender, how much was owed, how much was paid back.. if you start a new thread with that information, we could also help you do this yourself. it takes a bit of work but is not too hard and much cheaper.

I agree with bea2ls; with the help of this fantastic site and my State financial regulatory agency, I got out of the PDL trap. It takes some doing but it DOES work.
