Hello. I have been reading some of the posts that have been put up regarding PDL's. Currently I reside in Alabama and what I would like to know is how do you know if a PDL is legal in your state? Between my best friend and I we have about 8 payday loans. Is there a website to go to find out if the PDL is legal here in Alabama?

It will tell you if they hold a license in your state - I would highly advise contacting the Alabama Banking Department at the phone number shown in the law listed in my post above to ENSURE they are not licensed before proceeding. At the same time, ask them what you can do to file a complaint on any illegal companies.

I, too, am in CA and - of those on the list - I believe that only CashNetUSA and Check-N-Go are licensed/legal within the State of California ... though I could be wrong. I know for sure that check N Go is licensed/legal - as they have MANY walk-in stores throughout California and would not be able to be so if they were not properly licensed. In those two cases, I would ask them if you can enter intro an extended payment plan to pay down/off your respective loans with them ... I know for a FACT that CashNet will do so.

As for the others, you can check with the California Department of Financial Institutions and the California Department of Corporations - as a start. If you find out that they are not legally licensed and/or in compliance with California Financial Code sections 23000(a) & (b), 23035(a) & (b) and/or 23036(a) & (b), then you should IMMEDIATELY send each of them an ACH/Wage Assignment Revocation Letter (Since you and I are both in CA, you can check out the one I sent to a particular company (as an example) here --> http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/paydayloan/thread140835.html )

After you do this, I would also recommend calling your bank and having them place a hard stop on any further ACH debits from your account.

(NOTE: I want to give proper credit where credit is due ... all that I have learned, thus far, for dealing with these issues has been via the STELLAR advice of member paulmergel here on these community message boards).

GOOD LUCK .... let us know how things progress.
