I live in MA, and some guy from a PayDay loan collector keeps calling my work. I can never understand from which company he is calling from as his accent is too thick. Every time he calls, I repeatedly tell him not to call my workplace, and he refuses. What do I do?

A little background: Back in October of 2008 I was unemployed, and I needed a bit of money for rent. So I turned to a payday loan to help me scrape by that month. I initially borrowed $200. They then ran my bank account dry and I ended up having to close it and pay it off to my bank. That was before I found this website and learned of the laws. I had forgotten all about it til the guy started calling my work.

Now, I know that by MA law, I am legally obliged to pay back only the principal amount borrowed. However, this guy tells me he cant see the principal amount and I HAVE to pay $570 for him to stop calling. He refuses to back down. He says that I will go to court and will be arrested (which I know is not true, and when he said that, I audibly laughed), I told him to tell me when the court date is, and what courthouse in MA. He said March 28th, and he couldnt tell me where, what county the lawsuit was in, or when I would recieve my summons.

Im getting angry at this guy, as his audacity at trying to pressure me into paying $570 is getting ridiculous. He is threatening to call all my family members too, which I know is HIGHLY illegal. What are my options?

UPDATE: They called again, this time on my home phone. I told him I would pay the principal only, and he said that they would be filing criminal charges(HAHA!) against me. And that a man from their legal team would visit me at my work. Which I know is not true also. He has tried everything in the book to get me to pay the amount NOW!

After speaking with his "boss" who gave me their address, I did some research and found this to be the only collection agency listed at that address:

Jason Reed & Associates
1408 Bayview Court
Fort Meyers, FL 33901
Phone (904) 239-3963

But the phone number and zip code are different. And the name he gave me is not the same as any listed there. This is getting confusing. They said they refuse to stop calling me until I pay. What can I do? This is so frustrating! He also threatened to tell my boss tomorrow! (Which I am worried about, should I call the AG in my state?)

you can file police reports for the calls.also file AG and FTC complaints against this idiot.he is in INDIA and is evil and stupid to the core.also instead of continuing to speak to him just hang up.have your co-workers do the same.he calls hang up without a word.talking to him just brings more calls.you answer.once you here it's him slam the phone down.repeat as needed.again once you know it's him, hang up in his face as that is the least he deserves.

of course.let them know this scammer is calling constantly.they should be your ally, not your enemy.also use any of the numbers that show up on caller id or call back numbers he leaves to file the police report and complaints.
