How can I stop the harrassment?

Then In Sept. 2010 I got my first of a cagillion calls from "First IRS". They say I owe $1400.00 and the original creditor is...LoanPoint USA. They called me and my place of employment two or three times a day. So, I sent them a certified letter--they never signed for the letter and eventually the letter was returned to me. I did find a fax # for them and sent them a letter by fax asking them to verify the loan and to correspond only in writing. They kept calling until mid January.
Now, I am getting calls from "Powell Law Office". Last Friday, March 4th I sent them a certified letter asking for verification of this loan and to only correspond with me in writing. Guess what, they keep calling. Now they are calling from the same # they have been calling from and also another number.
When they call my home phone # I never answer. When I see that # on my phone I simply don't answer. When They call at work and I pick up the phone I simply tell them to put whatever they need to tell me in writing and mail it and then I hang up. When my co-workers answer they ask to take a message--but they will never leave a message, they just say they will call back.
Is there any way to get the calls to stop? Should I send a letter to LoanPoint USA (since they are the original creditor) and tell them to stop giving my number to collection agencies? What in this world will it take for the calls to stop?

I would just send the CA a cease and desist letter. There's no way they can validate the loan since it was illegal to begin with.
Have you sent a complaint to FTC? Attorney General? BBB? Do all
Have you sent a complaint to FTC? Attorney General? BBB? Do all of that...I am praying this doesn't happen to me. I also did the same as you...we shall see.

Well, that's what I keep doing is sending the "cease and desist" letter--but they keep calling and then turn me over to another lowlife CA. I want the calls it to stop.
You send the letter to the collection agency that's calling you.
You send the letter to the collection agency that's calling you. You send it certified with a return receipt requested. Document all calls received after they receive your letter. If it's a CA in the U.S. and they continue to harrass you after receiving your C&D, you SUE them. Don't even talk to these people after initial contact. LoanPoint will bounce you around to other CAs. They just want your money. When they realize they aren't going to get it, they'll stop. Definitely file complaints agains them with the FTC and your state's AG as well.
LoanPoint signed for the certified letter I sent them in Feb. 20
LoanPoint signed for the certified letter I sent them in Feb. 2009. I still have that little card. "First IRS" did not sign for the letter so after 2 weeks the post office sent the certified letter back. I faxed them. I sent the certified letter to "Powell Law Firm" March 4 2011. They have probably gotten the letter, but I have not received the little card that shows me if they signed for it or not. Who do I sue LoanPoint or First IRS or Powell Law Firm? How much does it cost to sue someone?

Sending a C&D to the original creditor (LoanPoint) does you no good. You probably also can't sue them because I don't think they are in this country. You can only sue the CA if you have proof that they received your C&D and continued to try to collect from you.

Thanks for your help OhioGal1. I will continue to document the calls from "Powell Law Firm". Hopefully I will get the little card back in the mail where they signed for the certified letter. I am also filing a complaint with the Mississippi Attorney General. The BBB already gives them ("First IRS & Powell Law Firm) an F rating so, I don't guess they care about that.
