National City transferred blocked account to First Niagara!! REOPENED!
Date: Tue, 09/15/2009 - 12:19
Needless to say, in the interim...National City transferred the account to First Niagara, because that is the branch it was initially opened in. I had to wait until Tuesday after the holiday to go when they opened the new bank. I informed the teller of my situation and she assured me that there would be no transactions in or out of this account, it was now CLOSED! I felt relieved and then contacted my HR department and updated my information.
Well...Friday my direct deposit does not go in my new account. I call HR and they say it was not returned as a closed account. I just find out today, that the deposit went into the old CLOSED account and reopened it, therefore I now have no money in there and have been charged numerous overdrafts.
I am livid. Went to the bank manager and he said he will 'try and help" but there is not much he can do as my deposit forced the account open. What about the block?!?? What about your teller assuring me that it was closed and nothing would get in and out? The PDL went nuts, some of which I already contacted with other payment options. I had fraud on this account, some of these were wacky transactions, electronic checks, etc....
So now what? Would I be wrong to say that their clerical errors caused this and they should refund my entire deposit? They said I pre authorized these.
HOW on earth does anyone ever close a bank account and protect their financial information.

I am having the same issue. They say my account is blocked. But they have not closed the account yet? I went in monday and it is now Wed and the account is still opened???

I sent ACH revocations to my approved lenders and am still trying to figure out some of the lenders that I did not ever approve. I had the same thing happen after blocking withdrawals from the PDLS. After my paycheck was deposited, I had the funds transferred to the new account. Then the old one closed. I had forgotten that my daughter has her unemployment check direct deposited, and that deposit reopened my account. As soon as her deposit hit, I transferred the money to the new account via on-line bank transfer. Finally got unemployment to switch accounts, and now I can finally have this account closed. Unbelievable. Thank God the block on the account worked or I'd have lost my paycheck and her unemployment check. You have to check your accounts everyday to make sure your $$$ are safe.

The thing is, I assumed the account was closed. I explained the entire situation to the teller and was assured the account was closed. I had no idea my deposit went into that account or that anything happened there until I got an NSF charge in the mail.
Today I went and talked to a different manager. I took all of my paperwork from national city, and explained the saga(with the file that said NO DEPOSIT, NO CREDIT, NO NSF, NO ACH). I had to fill out affidavids, but this manager admitted their clerical error and he is taking care of returning these withdrawals and fees to me. I am so tired of dealing with this.
I wouldn't be in any of this mess in the first place if it hadn't been for one stupid mistake and so many overdraft charges on my account that caused me to act foolishly and apply for one of these loans. Now my identity is compromised. I found out today from the bank, that in that situation they could have offered me a block on the old account and an option to make payments on the fees to them....in the future I will never, ever give out my banking information again.

How could have you known it would turn out this way though, you had every good intention, don't beat yourself up. If I were you, after those fees and etc/ are returned, I would go to a totally different bank, even better a credit union and open a new account.
