Once you close your bank account, is it ok to open a new account with the same bank ?

Although if you closed it b/c of PDL's, many people suggest you open an account at a different bank to prevent any possibility of the PDL places finding out that you have a new account number. (Although, I personally haven't heard of this happening recently.) If I am wrong, please correct me.
