Opened up my computer this morning to this
A very official E mail from the IRS( wow, now the IRS e mails us). Anyway , it goes on to say that there was an error found , and they owe me 368.14. Well. i know that they owe me 0.Actually I am paying them for some taxes that I owe. Any refund would go against that. All I have to do to get my "refund" is fill in the attached form. Guess what they need ? My bank routing number and my account #. If I dont give them that #, Any charge card will do(apparently they will put the money on a charge card?????), or finally they will take any bank deit card I may have. Have the IPDLS sunk to new lows? Ya think????

I received a similar email and forwarded it to the phising email at the IRS but have not heard anything bank from it. It did look pretty official with the IRS logo at the top.

Kash - Phishing is a type of e-mail scam designed to steal your identity. If you reply with account numbers and such then they use this to steal from you. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I also got the one this week where I won $500,000 but needed to send $460 for insurance. I told them to deduct the insurance money and put the check in the mail. HA HA

The IRS and Ebay scam have been around for a while, and are starting to re-surface. Always report them to the IRS and to EBay so they can look into it. If it isn't reported, these loosers will keep on doing it, and someone will fall for it.

Some poor eldery lady here was on the news a few weeks ago, and had fallen for the famous lottery scam, and lost alot of her money.

Any time someone wants your banking info, personal info, etc., to "give" you money is a big fat scam!!

Like my granny used to say "If it sounds too good to be true- it probaly is"!! KAren

YOu said it Karen. I am so careful and paranoid now about everything I get in E Mail. All of a sudden now(after a long period of none)I am once again getting e mail offers for PDLS. These I am very paranoid about, I wonder if they are sister compnies of the ones I defaulted on trying to get my new info. I dont put anything past these people. They will NEVER get me again

I get postcards every 10 days since I paid them off saying they miss me( I bet they do) and are waiting with some money for me!! Don't think so!!..KAren

OH....wanted to 'add' to the 'scam thing'. PayPal is using e-mails, too. Of course, it's NOT really PP. According to the e-mail, " someone has been added to my account. To change your account ID and password, please click here." I'm sure some of you have gotten one, from time to time. Just thought i would warn ya'll!!

Great......... I've gotten all the scam emails (ho hum) but the IRS is a new one on me! I can't wait to get that one! I've gotten the E-Bay ones, the PayPal ones, the lottery ones, blah, blah. I've gotten emails from pdl's (that I didn't even pay off) offering me money, blah, blah. Good Lord. I think we've all learned our lesson the hard way. But, boy, these scams are getting wild any more. Of course, we all know not to give anyone our bank account information. I'll be damned if I do! However, like stated above, what about all these people who don't have a clue? How sad. And I've gotten to the point to where I just delete everything. I read who it's from. If it's not from someone I know, I delete it. If my bank, PayPal, EBay, or whoever else wants something from me, I know I can log on to my account and see if there are any messages. But a lot of people don't know this.

Oh wait, they will deposit it for me if i give them my account info.

Kash - You only get you lottery winnings after you contact the lawyer for the long lost relative in Berma who has died and left you 20 million dollars. You only need to pay the 6500.00 taxes, through your acccount directly to him so he can pay the Bermese government for you.

I have been hit with so many scam & phishing e-mails, it's pathetic. I actually had one that tried to go through with it by sending me a fake money order from the Phillipines. I called the Wal Mart money order issuing company (and yes, it looked every bit like a REAL Wal Mart money order, complete with watermark and fine print), confirmed it was fake, and turned the whole shebang over to the FBI, including both ends of the e-mail correspondence from this jerk.

All the banks in our area now have signs at the teller windows and drive-thru's that have a huge red stop sign on them, and detail this scam. They will not accept money orders from out of the country anymore, and if it somehow slips through and gets cashed or deposited in your account, and you draw funds from it, YOU are on the hook for the money when it comes back as fake...plus any fees incurred.

be careful out there folks.

That lawyer thing I was teasing Kash about really happened to my whole family. The person(?) contacted the 6 children in my husband's family. One of them responded that they knew this was a scam and to stop contacting the family members and they continued. He got so tired of it (we were getting 10 - 20 e-mails per day) he turned it over to the FBI.

It is getting so bad with these scams..something as simple as using coupons in the grocery store is becomming a problem becuase of the scams. I do not get the newspaper but have signed up to receive the coupon section via e-mail...the stores will not take them any more...they said there are too many forged ones. Ok...I am so deperate I am going to forge a coupon for .50 off of two boxes of Cheerios.

The only thing that's ever happened to me was when I answered an ad for mystery shoppers last year and got a fake cashier's check for two grand made out to myself. I was told to cash it at my bank and then wire the proceeds to an address in Canada, keeping part of it for myself.
After I called the bank in Florida that it was drawn on to verify funds, I was told that they had stopped doing cashier's checks months ago and to report it to the police, which I did. Scary. I also researched this outfit on the net and found scads of stories from people who had been ripped off! The moral of this story is, if it sounds too good to be true, it is!

One of our local stations here had the IRS scam featured on their news broadcast. But like the rest of you, I have had the paypal scam (don't have a paypal account), the ebay scam (haven't been on ebay for a few years so don't even know if my account works), the lottery scams, I have been left "millions" from someone overseas to use for God's work, I have even had banks email me about my account (banks I don't even have accounts with), plus because of my outstanding payment history, I have been offered up to $5000 from some payday loan places, (which we all know that they are the reason I came here to start with). So, I guess at this point, my paypal account it locked, my ebay account is locked, I guess I have forfieted all my lottery earnings and I guess those people who left me in their will figure they need to leave their money to someone else.

I am glad to know I am not alone... again.....I get so many emails from the UK offering me jobs, leaving me in their wills, asking me for help transfering funds, etc. Just for fun I have started replying in large bold red letters....STOP SENDING ME THIS ----. It may not stop them but it makes me feel better...

 at Roxy- yeah I thought that was pretty wild too. I had an online coupon for cat food for .75 and the cashies treated me like I was a member of Al-Queida!! I told her, for petes' sake throw it away if you don't accept it- but no-she called the manager! There were a dozen people behind me, and I told her I would pay .75 more if she would just continue to ring up my groceries. If I was goinmg to pull a scam it would be for more than .75  Karen

I know this whole situation has made me very cautious..with everything..even shopping on line, which I did alot of. However, if one could say some "good" has come of this, I would say becomming educated and finding this fourm being helped and helping others in this situation as well as finding the strength to dig myself out of this mess has been "good".

roxy, who you telling? I find myself giving people advice about the law. Ummm.... they're looking at me like "How do you know this stuff?" LOL! I thank God this site exists. I was soooo stupid before I found it. Laws? Oh, there were laws? Honestly! "What? You mean they're illegal?" My gosh. I suck up everything I can on this site. I was absolutely amazed that there are laws and that I actually had something on "my side" and I didn't have to suffer through the endless nightmare until I was buried in the ground! And when posting to help others who just found us, remember that feeling when you first came. How horrible it was and how wonderful it was when people actually stepped up to help. That's what keeps me going. If we can help even one person see the light, we are doing good.

Well..and I have told you this before..this site certainly saved me..and I do remember every time that someone new posts, especially when I can feel the desperation in their words. I did not realize how bad off I was until I received my first reply and sat there and cried tears of relief...Those that have been involved with me have set the bar really high and I read and try to absorb all I can so maybe someday I can do for someone what you all have done for me. Ok..enough of the sappy stuff.
