It's been well over 1 1/2 years since I had a payday loan. I'm not even sure who it was through. I now have a company called D.C. Capitol calling my relatives talking about affidavites and legal stuff. One of these family members would not have been listed as a credit reference. Not sure how they got cell phone numbers for these people. What should I do? I live in NJ and I'm not sure how to stop the calls to these people. I have never been contacted by this company, they seem to be calling my family. Of course they then call me concerned. Is D.C. Capitol a collection agency? Whay can they do to me.

I've had a few call my family members at work and their homes as well. Family members whom I've never used a reference and family members whose home phone numbers I didn't even have. My family called me concerned as well, but I explained to them it was a scam and that the people calling them were operating illegaly. It was embarrassing but once I had my aunt google the number and the company she read all about their illegal tactics and she just chuckled and said she will handle them next time they call her.

Well......usually with PDL's, they will call your 'references'. However.....they are NOT suppose to talk to family members about your financial 'status', unless you give them permission to. PDL's use to call my employment ALL the time. FINALLY....my employment told them to stop calling or they would file a complaint aqainst them. They left me alone, as well. I live in PA..so, I'm not really sure which PDL's are 'legal' and which ones aren't.

My question is, these companies are illegal and don't follow the rules. How can we make them stop without having to pay all of their illegal fees? I'm trying to deal with payday-loan-yes now, and cannot get an address or anything. I owe $195 on the loan and they want me to pay over $500.
