Northway Financial - Malta
Date: Thu, 09/09/2010 - 09:35
The other day Ms. Fisher from Northway Financial called and I firmly told her that I asked her not to call me at work, well obviously that fell on deaf ears. She then proceeded to call my HR dept to verify employment! I'm so embarrassed because I just started this job not even 90 days ago and now this?!
I quickly wrote a cease & desist letter, faxed it over to them. Also the letter about wage assignment revokation and the letter pertaining to the laws of the state of Iowa and that I know they're illegal and that I'm only paying the principal amount owed and nothing more!
I'm like holding my breath in hopes that they abide to those letters. I don't want to lose my job over them and if I do, then I'm going to be madder and I won't blink an eye over suing their a$$es off, even if they ARE in Malta.
Now, am I missing anything? Do I need to send them anything else?
I'm supposed to 'wire transfer' them money tomorrow for $414.60 and the lady also mentioned something about debiting my checking account. I've done a hard block on them so I don't think they'll be getting any money but she also stated that there will be additional charges applied to my loan and the amount I would owe. I only borrowed $290, so how does it keep increasing?!
Anyway, I just don't want them to contact my work anymore or the HR dept.
I'm scared.

They are not licensed anywhere in the US. Don't pay them a dime more than the principal amount ($290) borrowed. They will use all sorts of scare tactics and illegal ways to make you pay them. Make your account deposit-only and ask for a PIF when you send them the principal amount borrowed.

Thanks Debt Samaritan for the info.
I'm just hoping they don't keep calling my work and asking for the HR dept again. Like I said, I don't and can't lose my job over these idiots.

You're also going to need to close your account. The block won't be good enough. They always find a way around it. And give a copy of your wage revocation letter to your HR department.
