Live in NY. Want to do debt settlement vs bankruptcy. Can anyone refer a good company? Spoke to a few companies but have been getting conflicting and confusing information. Last company tried to charge me as much in (legal) fees as I was paying to settle in debt. Hoping someone can help...

What type of debts are you wanting to settle? If they are payday loans I wouldn't recommend using a settlement company. On the other hand, if you are interested in settling other types of debts why don't you browse the debt settlement forum here, there is all kinds of good information on how to settle debts yourself, as well as sample letters.
