2 questions about online payday loans in New York
Date: Sun, 11/04/2007 - 14:39
I had 3 payday loans 1)500fastcash-$300 2)webpayday-$400 3)Nationwide cash-$500 and I had to borrow a siblings credit card in order to pay these leeches. I ended up paying a total of about $1900 with their high as a pothead interest rates.
I live in NY, is there a way to get a refund on some of the money or can I report them?
What if you take out a loan and decide not to pay them because you just found out that payday loans were illegal in your state? Can you inform the payday loan companies on this and make them aware that you know it's illegal and you refuse to pay the loan because they're doing business illegaly? Or they just don't care?

Hi beats. You can definitely try for a refund. You can also report them to your state Division of Banking, your states Attorney General's office and the Better Business Bureau.
There are more knowledgable members here that will be able to provide more information, I'm sure someone will be along shortly.
Good luck on the refunds!! :)

beats, you're getting loans because these companies are unlicensed/illegal. They don't give a crap where the person resides. Yes, they are illegal in New York and many other places; however, they prey on people who do not have the knowledge that they are indeed illegal, which is the majority of people. Since you have paid them (and thank God got them off your butt), you need to file complaints against these companies. Go to the BBB (bbb.org) and file against each one. Go the the FTC (ftc.gov) and file against each one. Then go to your state attorney general and file a complaint against each one. Just google "New York Attorney General". The site should come up. Look under something like "Consumer Protection" or something along those lines. Then you'll see where you can file a complaint. File, file, file. These guys are illegal. :x
