Does anyone know if American Web Loan is legal in Ohio? I had a loan through them and I defaulted back in October. Interestingly enough, they have never contacted me one single time in regards to payment due. No emails, no phone calls, no letter, nothing. I just wondered if it's because they know they can't collect because they're not legal in Ohio??

I'm in Indiana and got a loan through them too. I've only renewed once and that is because they set it up where it automatically renews and the only way you can pay is on the website. If you don't go on the website and change the auto-renewal three days before it extends then you can't pay it off before it extends again. I locked myself out of the site on the 3rd day before this time and called to get my password unlocked and told them it wouldnt let me pay it and I wanted to pay them over the phone so it wouldn't extend again and they told me I couldn't do that, I had to wait until it extends and then pay on the site the next day. My contract says the opposite, that in order to extend the loan you have to call to extend or notify in writing otherwise they take the full amount, but they have it set up to auto extend. When they wouldn't let me pay over the phone I went down and closed my account. I really hope that doesn't get me into trouble for doing that, but I thought it was outrageous that here I wanted to pay it before the due date and it was impossible because I didn't get on there 3 days before to stop the auto extend.

Lending of pdls is legal in the state of Ohio. You need to contact the Ohio Division of Financial Institutions in order to find out which lenders are licensed to operate in your state and which are not. You will have to pay the principal amount with interest if the lender is licensed in your state. Otherwise you are required to pay only the principal amount. Illegal payday lenders don???t have any right to take any legal action against you. To know more about how to deal with illegal payday lenders, glance through the following link:

On what grounds can they not collect in ohio? You don't get real details of payback until after they put the money in your account... Then you find that a 600.00 loan has 30% bi weekly,,,and none goes to pay off...so far i have paid 1400.00 and at 360 per month i can't afford pay off....god, im in such a mess:( SO CAN I SHUT DOWN MY ACCOUNT AND MAKE BANK ACCOUNT AT ANOTHER BANK? NOT SURE WHAT TO DO HERE... HAVE REPORTED TO ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE
