I recently stopped paying on my online pdl's because I'm having a really hard time financially. Now one of them is saying that they are going to be contacting my employer, I'm assuming to try to have the money taken out of my paycheck. But an email they just sent me states that "all contact with your employer has been stopped..." So, my question is, are they allowed to actually garnish my wages by taking the money from my check? They've said that when I signed for the loan that it authorized them to do this, but I'm still confused!

They can't garnish your wages without a court order. Any wage garnishment you might have signed in a loan document would have been voluntary...and you can revoke that by sending them a letter stating as much. Keep copies of anything you send so that you have it to show your payroll admin--although if he/she knows what they're doing they wouldn't set up a garnishment without a court order anyway.
