I paid this pdl off and they did not return my original check they sent me a photo copy of it? Shouldn't they have sent my original check back to me? Why would they do that? They also asked me if I had a new account....like I would tell them if I did.

The copy of the check they sent has NSF stamped on it along with VOID STAMPED in red ink twice on it. Why do you suppose they did this that way. Is it normal to have gotten it this way? It is also stamped on the back of it Return Check. I do not want to call them...should I just send them a letter requesting my original check and also ask them why they just sent me a photocopy of it?

I would still request the original for the simple fact that there is no real proof that they stamped the actual check. Does it appear to be the actual check they stamped? They could have photocopied the original and stamped the photocopy and then photocopy that copy and sent it to you so that you would think the original is voided. Nonetheless, you should of received the original check back. The loan is paid off, there is no reason for them to keep the original check.

To me it does look legit...but however what concerns me is why did the moron ask me if I had another account. He was someone new there that said he was the branch manager and had called me twice in one week asking me for the balance on my account. When I told him that had spoken to him two days ago he claimed that it wasn't him. Well I talked to the girl I had been dealing with that was the store manager and she said that he was "new". I don't trust them, however what do I do if they tell me they don't have the original any longer? Shouldn't they be required by state law to return it once the debt is paid in full?

Yeah it's closed because when I first tried to make arrangements with them they told me they had to submit to my bank to have them stamp account closed or nsf on it. The word VOID is stamped in red ink on the photocopy of the check..also it is stamped on the front closed do not re-present....i am going to send them a letter i don't trust these fools...after everything i have read about them. However, the girl that I was dealing with was very nice and very helpful..it's just this stupid jerk that I was dealing with this last time that really p-d me off. Oh well...what can I do if they don't return it?

Sorry I don't want to seem stupid but it really bugs me.

Take a deep breath Ladybug. LOL. Im thinking the guy maybe asked you if you had a new account under the impression that maybe the loan was not paid in full because of the check being stamped closed. He is new to the company. Im pretty sure you tried to tell him it was PIF but it could be that he just wasnt paying attention or listening and thought he had a bad check/unpaid loan on his hands. In any event, I would ask the girl that you were dealing with in the past, to sent you something in writing saying that the loan is paid in full to go with the copy of the voided check.

Okay, I bet that you are right he is new and probably doesn't know how to handle things like that:, so I will give him a break. To me it looks legit...I am just paranoid, and I don't think anyone can blame me considering what some of these pdl's do to people  . Thanks for all of your advice.

ladybug, I'll tell you from experience. I had this happen to me also. When I went in to pay the storefront, I was given back a photocopy of the check, which was stamped "NSF" and all the stuff yours was stamped with. I asked why they were giving me a photocopy of the check rather than the original check. They informed me that this is what the bank gives them. The bank gives the storefront a photocopy of the NSF check. Now, I don't know if every single bank operates this way, but I do know exactly what you're talking about. The storefront told me that the bank gives them photocopies of all NSF checks, not the original. So I took the photocopy of my check along with my receipt showing it was paid in full and I'm keeping it until I die.

I hear ya sister on that one, they will have to buy a special plot for all of my past pdl's pif's. (LOL)
You know something at least we can joke around about this stuff now, whereas before it consumed our whole lives and I thank god everyday for stumbling across this wonderful site with all of you wonderful and helpful people. Everyone is out to help everyone else and that is great in this day and age that is not very common practice.

So we should all give each other a pat on the back for a job well done. We may not always agree but in the end we are all after one thing and that is to provide comfort and help to a person in need.

ladybug; although your loan with them has been paid. Their handling of the closing transaction sounds shady.
My state, Illinois, recently fined Advanced America $77,500 as they were found to be violating the IL state law regarding payday loans.
Perhaps their recent transaction is not on the up & up. Its not the consumer's problem if the manager is new or not. He/She should know what they are doing before they pick up the tele !!

Ladybug - did you find yourself in a situation of owing them? I do believe when my due date comes that I wont have them paid in full. Did they work with you? (And whats with the turnover in this company!) In the course of a week * 5 * count 'em 5 different people have called me & no one reads !! the file notes.

heaven, have you been making payments to them? Because they are supposed to be a member of the CSFA, I believe.

So you have a month before you have to pay them again? Are they taking your payments? I'm just wondering because if they are CFSA, you could have done the EPP with them. I don't know what you're paying them now or how much you owe. But it sounds like they're at least taking payments. From what I understand about ladybug (and she'll probably be along later to clarify) is that she just makes payments to them and she's not had any problems with them. So that's encouraging anyway!

Oh, heaven, you don't have to tell me. I had a storefront that I had to document EVERYTHING because they were sooooooo awful. Times, names, dates, everything. They were actually borderline harrassing. Horrible.
