Over two years ago I took out a payday loan from Together Cash. I found out later that this company is illegal and that they had no liscense in SD(where I live) to issue payday loans. I did some more research and found out that Together Cash was tied to Rocky Boy LLC and based on a Montana indian reservation where they claim they have immunity. Fast Forward to today. I get this weird call from a guy claiming to be Mark Grenno of some law firm. He told me that I have 3 charges against me and all this of stuff. I simply hung up. Well he calls right back and says that since I hung up on him and that it was a recorded call...now I'm in a legal mess. He says that he was going to inform the Brookings Police Department and have a summons drawn up for my arrest. He says that I should get some clothes ready and get some daycare ready for my kids as I am going to jail.
Now...he gave me a number to call back. It is (321)-482-5007. Now..if he was from a legit law office..wouldn't he leave me an 800 number to call him back at?? This number is from Orlando. Now this is the same guy who called me about 2 months ago..never said he was a lawyer and at that time...the number he gave me was based out of Seattle WA.
How should I respond to this?? I did take out this payday loan from Together Cash but since they are illegal..I only paid back the principal and nothing more. I hadn't heard about this in quite some time and now he's called like 3 times today.
Whatever advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Tell him that you are aware this is a scam. Tell him that unles
Tell him that you are aware this is a scam. Tell him that unless he sends something in writing, he's not getting a penny out of you. You can't be arrested for not paying a debt. This guy is trying to scare you into giving him money. Don't fall for it.
Yeah....The guy I talked to has a weird accent. Plus...the numb
Yeah....The guy I talked to has a weird accent. Plus...the number he gave me to call back is not even a law firm phone number. It's a landline to someone's house. How weird is that??
Do you know how to get people like this to stop calling???
how can you tell if the number is a ,landline to someones house
how can you tell if the number is a ,landline to someones house and not an actual business???
When I looked up the reverse phone number...it gave me the place
When I looked up the reverse phone number...it gave me the place where the number is from and told me it was a landline phone. Just go to a reverse phone number look up web site..put in the telephone number...and it will tell you.
He was probably calling you from India or someplace outside the
He was probably calling you from India or someplace outside the US; a lot of these scammers do that, and they use bogus US telephone numbers. Do as Ohiogal says, tell him he's got to send you something in writing; don't admit over the phone to owing a cent. If you don't feel like talking to them, just hang up or, if you have caller id and see their # showing, don't answer. They can't argue with a dial tone.
