Hi. 2 years ago I got a call from Weinstein, Marchese & Associates LLC saying I owed a bunch of money for a payday loan that never got repaid. After spending alot of time on the phone and explaining that I thought that this had been taken care of, the guy gave me a discount and I still ended up having to pay a little over $680. They sent me an email saying that I would no longer have any financial obligation regarding this matter.
Just last week I received a phone call from some completely different business saying I owed money on this same matter. I explained that I thought this got taken care of a couple of years ago and the guy had no clue what I was talking about. I was able to find the email I got from Weinstein Marchese & Associates and called this place back. He had me search the number on google and i read about how it was a scam.
What I am wondering is there anything I can do about this? I paid the company that contacted me last week. but me losing almost $700 still upsets me.

right on #3.the OP got scammed twice.let me bring up some points.

1)the place two years ago was a complete scam.
2)you needed a PIF(paid in full)the verbage in the email could be construed as settlement.
3)you never pay a voice over the phone unless you get something in writing via snail mail.

now that being said since you got scammed about a week ago by this second wormslime.see if you can cancel the method of payment.if by debit claim the card was lost,or the debit was fraudulant.if by credit card do a chargeback,or also claim the card lost.since this was recent you might get that money back.the scam fro two years ago.forget it,but listen never again just pay a voice over the phone.get in something in writing(and email doesn't count).remember that.
